Aaron Rodgers ‘Pleaded With’ Jets To Bring Him Back, Accepted Breakup ‘Like a Man Going to the Gallows’

Aaron Rodgers learned his fate with the New York Jets — it wasn’t the one he was hoping for. New head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey decided it was time for Rodgers to move on. Rodgers will surely be disappointed in his tenure as the Jets quarterback and would’ve liked to redeem a disappointing 5-12 season.

Aaron Rodgers Reportedly Pleads to the Jets

Rodgers reportedly begged the new Jets front office to give him another season. However, Rodgers will now have to find another team to play for unless this decision sends him into a potential retirement. The new front office was ready to start fresh much to Rodgers’ disappointment. With a pedigree like the former MVP’s, he has earned himself the opportunity to try to convince the brass to give him another season.

Rodgers led the Jets’ offense to their best finish at 19th according to PFSN’s Offense+ metric, with data dating back to 2019. The Jets have never finished in the top half of the league in these rankings but have four bottom-two finishes with three of them being dead last.

He was forced to accept the decision after failing to successfully convince the team to give him another chance. He took his fate “like a man going to the gallows,” a source told the New York Post.

Like a romantic breakup, Rodgers struggled to grapple with the fact that this partnership was over. When Rodgers joined the Jets, this was not how expected his tenure to go. With a top-level defense when he joined and budding young offensive stars, Rodgers had high expectations for what they could achieve.

Tearing his Achilles four snaps into his first season was the first bump in the road. In 2024, the same expectations held. Jets fans saw a potential division championship and a playoff run, and if it all worked out, Rodgers would have been hoisting the Lombardi instead of Jalen Hurts this season. Instead, they mustered up a measly five victories in a disastrous season.

Rodgers even got his buddy Davante Adams to New York. Everything seemed like it was destined to work out and it never did. The dream of bringing a struggling franchise back to the top of the league fell short, and now the Jets are ready to turn him loose.

Seeing visions of success with the Jets, Rodgers didn’t want this tough time to end the way it did. Looking at his future options, the Jets might be his best chance to compete for the playoffs and the Super Bowl. There aren’t many teams that need a quarterback with the skill player talent that the Jets have.

Teams like the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, and the New York Giants could all use a quarterback. Unfortunately, all of these teams were worse than the Jets and are picking in front of the Jets in the current NFL Draft order. With a couple of improvements and the new coaching staff, the Jets could be in the playoff hunt with good QB play.

Rodgers felt he could give the Jets what they needed, but the front office didn’t fall for his plea and he was forced to accept his fate knowing his time is up without success to show for it.
