Aaron Rodgers can’t seem to stay out of the headlines, even when he’s trying to relax on the golf course. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback found himself in hot water over the weekend after an incident at a celebrity golf tournament that has fans questioning whether the drama will follow him to his new team.
What Actually Happened at the American Century Championship?
Rodgers joined the Pittsburgh Steelers last month, signing a one-year, $13.65 million contract that includes $10 million guaranteed and has the potential to reach up to $19.5 million with incentives. This marks the third NFL team of his legendary career after spending 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers and the past two years as a member of the New York Jets.
While he was dominant during his time in Green Bay, winning one Super Bowl and four MVP awards, his stint in New York was far less notable. Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon just four snaps into his first season. He did bounce back in 2024, however, playing all 17 games and throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while completing 63%Â of his passes.
The future Pro Football Hall of Famer ranked eighth in the league in passing yards and seventh in touchdowns. His play was often overshadowed by outside noise, as Rodgers has often been labeled as a distraction by the media. While all early reports in Pittsburgh have been positive, the star quarterback made headlines over the weekend for his reaction to nearly hitting a kid with a golf club at a celebrity golf tournament.
How Did Aaron Rodgers Respond to Nearly Hitting a Young Fan?
Rodgers has become one of the most recognizable faces in sports over the course of the past two decades. The four-time MVP participated in the American Century Championship, a celebrity charity golf tournament, over the weekend. He made headlines for his response after nearly hitting a kid with his golf club.
Dov Kleiman shared the footage to X, tweeting:
“Yikes: New Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers almost hit a kid with his golf club and roasts him instead of apologizing: Kid: “You almost hit me, Aaron Rodgers.” Rodgers: “Almost doesn’t count.” He couldn’t care less…😬😳”

Rodgers faced plenty of backlash for his comments, as he often has throughout his career. The Super Bowl XLV MVP also made headlines earlier in the tournament as he refused to sign an autograph for a fan whom he labeled as an ‘autograph hound.’
While he found himself in plenty of news during his time at the American Century Championship, Steelers fans are hoping that will not be the case when training camp begins later this month.
