Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams Reunion on the Table as Jets Explore Trade Amid $38.2M Cap Hit Concerns

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that the New York Jets are open to trading star wide receiver Davante Adams this offseason. Rapoport took to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight how Adams’ extremely high salary cap hit for the next two seasons makes him a strong trade or release candidate.

Adams was acquired midseason in a blockbuster trade from the Las Vegas Raiders for a conditional draft pick. However, the move did little to help the Jets, who finished third in the AFC East with a 5-12 record.

    Latest Davante Adams News

Rapoport made it clear that Adams is not expected to remain with the Jets next season and that both a trade and a release remain possible options.

“Sources: The #Jets are now taking calls on star WR Davante Adams, open to trading him prior to the start of the league year. No surprise with his $38.2M cap number. If they can’t get a deal, they are expected to release Adams, who could rejoin QB Aaron Rodgers with a new team,” Rapoport reported.

Like Adams, the Jets recently announced the release of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, opting not to bring back the future Hall of Famer for another season. However, it remains unclear whether Rodgers will join another team or retire from the NFL.

    Davante Adams’ Future Outlook

With Rodgers’ departure confirmed and Adams’ future in doubt, a reunion between the two remains a possibility. While their time in New York was a disappointment, the former Green Bay Packers duo occasionally showed flashes of their elite connection—something that could make them an attractive package for teams next season.

In 2024, Adams recorded 67 receptions for 854 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games with the Jets. His production indicates that he still has the talent to succeed in the NFL, even as he approaches his 12th season.

However, as Rapoport’s report makes clear, Adams will not be showcasing those skills as a member of the Jets in 2025.
