Only two days of action have finished at Wimbledon 2025 and several seeded players have already been knocked out of the singles events. These include the likes of Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Alexander Zverev.
Coco Gauff, Alexander Zverev, Jessica Pegula, Lorenzo Musetti Among Eight Top-10 Seeds Out of Wimbledon 2025
The first round of Wimbledon 2025 is over, and a total of 23 seeded players were knocked out in the opening round. This is a joint record for most number of seeds eliminated in the first round of a Grand Slam since the 32-seeding system came into existence.
In the men’s singles event, Alexander Zverev tasted his first opening-round exit at a Grand Slam since Wimbledon 2019, as he lost to Arthur Rinderknech in a five-set thriller that lasted four hours and 45 minutes.
Last year’s semifinalists Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev both lost their respective openers at the grass-court Major in four sets. While the Italian lost 2-6, 6-4, 5-7, 1-6 to Nikoloz Basilashvili, the Russian suffered a 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-7(3), 2-6 to Benjamin Bonzi. The likes of Holger Rune, Ugo Humbert are also among the men’s singles seeds who lost in the first round of Wimbledon 2025.
A total of 13 men’s singles seeds have been eliminated in the first hurdle at SW 19, which equaled the record for the most seeded players to be knocked out of the opening round of a Grand Slam. The last time so many male seeds exited a Major this early was at the 2004 Australian Open.
With #3 Zverev crashing out to Rinderknech, there are now *TWELVE* men’s seeds out in the first round already.
Per the ITF, that’s a #Wimbledon record.
The men’s record at any Slam is 13 (2004 AO), which is still possible to reach or pass here since many men aren’t done yet.

Third seed Jessica Pegula, who won the Bad Homburg Open this year, lost 2-6, 3-6 to Elisabetta Cocciaretto in a match that lasted for less than an hour. This was the 31-year-old’s first opening-round exit at a Grand Slam since the 2020 French Open.
Fifth seed Zheng Qinwen suffered her third successive opening-round exit at the grass-court Major after losing 5-7, 6-4, 1-6 to Kateřina Siniaková, while ninth seed Paula Badosa lost 6-2, 3-6, 4-6 to Katie Boulter.
