Will Caitlin Clark Play for the Indiana Fever in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Final? Injury Update and What’s at Stake

Caitlin Clark’s injury status looms large for the Indiana Fever ahead of a crucial WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Final against the Minnesota Lynx.

The Indiana Fever face a critical test as the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Final approaches, but all eyes are on Caitlin Clark. The star guard’s status was up in the air after a recent groin injury sidelined her for two straight games, raising concerns about her availability for the big matchup against the Minnesota Lynx on July 1.

With the Fever’s hopes riding on her playmaking and scoring, Clark’s condition could be the deciding factor in a game that marks the start of a tough stretch for Indiana.

Caitlin Clark Injury Update: Fever Star Listed Out vs. Lynx

Clark is officially listed as out for the Fever’s high-stakes clash with the Minnesota Lynx at the Target Center on Tuesday.

According to IndyStar’s Brian Haenchen, Clark was not a full participant in practice on June 29 and was limited to non-contact work. This latest setback comes amid her second period of absence this season due to injury, with games missed (nine appearances for the 8-8 Fever). She was ruled out by the Fever’s official account on X.

Fever head coach Stephanie White offered a cautious outlook, emphasizing the importance of avoiding setbacks in Clark’s recovery.

“We’re just trying to progress slowly, making sure we don’t have any setbacks,” White said.

Clark echoed those sentiments, describing herself as day-to-day but optimistic about her progress. “I’m doing everything I can to put myself in a position to play the next game every single time,” she said. “That’s always my goal, to be available for the next game. I’m doing everything I can with the medical staff to get my body right.”

Key Absences and Season Implications

Indiana will also be without Damiris Dantas, while the Lynx’s Karlie Samuelson is ruled out with a foot injury. Clark’s potential return would provide a major boost for the Fever, who need her playmaking and scoring against a tough Lynx squad led by Napheesa Collier.

Clark has been a vital part of the Fever’s offense this season. The second-year guard, who recently earned her second All-Star selection, is averaging 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.9 assists in just over 33 minutes per game. Despite her strong play, the Fever have struggled with consistency and injuries, posting a .500 record so far this season.

Tuesday’s game marks the start of a demanding stretch for Indiana, with eight games scheduled in just over two weeks before the All-Star break. The Fever will need Clark at her best to navigate this challenging period and keep their postseason hopes alive.

Meanwhile, the Lynx enter the matchup as clear favorites. They top the standings with a dominant 14-2 record, are undefeated at home, and have won eight of their last 10 games. Their strong play has made them not only the team to beat in the Commissioner’s Cup but also a leading contender for the WNBA title.

The Fever vs. Lynx matchup tips off at 8 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the game live on Prime Video and the WNBA app with a subscription.
