The Chicago Bears have a ton of optimism going into the 2025 season. With a new head coach in Ben Johnson at the helm, the fanbase is hoping that the offensive genius can unlock former first overall pick Caleb Williams. However, for a competitive year, the rest of the roster also needs to be on point.
As a result, one analyst believes Chicago could be in the business for another trade after an offseason full of them. However, this time around, the focus of the move is to improve an already solid defense and give them a veteran at cornerback.
Will the Chicago Bears Continue Their Blockbuster Offseason?
With a clear focus on the trenches on both sides of the football, the Bears opened their offseason by trading for both Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson to shore up their guard spots. Then, they went ahead and signed Drew Dalman, Dayo Odeyingbo, and Grady Jarrett.

However, their offseason moves might not be over, according to Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report. In his list of blockbuster three-team trades, Sobleski listed Chicago as a potential surprise destination for Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
Apart from a fifth-round pick, Zah Frazier, the Bears left their secondary relatively untouched this offseason. However, Sobleski believes “the Bears could use a player of Ramsey’s caliber to line up opposite Jaylon Johnson and give the team a strong pair of coverage options to go along with an aggressive defensive front.”
After ranking 13th on PFSN’s Defense+ metric last season, one of the bigger problems remains their pass defense, especially after their lack of moves this offseason. As a result, a veteran corner with a proven track record and coming off his seventh-consecutive Pro Bowl selection in 2023 might be the perfect candidate to enhance the unit.
However, in Sobleski’s trade, the Bears give up Braxton Jones to the Cleveland Browns, who, in turn, ship Greg Newsome II to the Dolphins. Chicago has a potential replacement for Jones in rookie Ozzy Trapilo.
But the entire trade is going to be dependent on the coaching staff’s willingness to have a rookie cover their potential franchise quarterback’s blind side. However, there is one caveat that could convince the Bears to make the move.
“Jones started 40 games in his first three seasons after being a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He’s been dependable, but he’s also coming off a season-ending broken ankle.” For the other two teams in the trade, too, Sobleski offered his explanation for the move.
For Cleveland, it is an insurance policy for Dawand Jones, in case he doesn’t return to his rookie form after not playing to his standards in his second season. And Miami can get a younger, cheaper option to be their new top cover corner.
