Jason Whitlock Rips Indiana Fever in Scathing Rant As ‘Mismanaged’ Caitlin Clark’s On-Court Struggles Persist

Caitlin Clark’s shooting slump continues post-injury, sparking criticism of Fever management. Jason Whitlock calls it WNBA’s mishandling of its biggest star.

With Caitlin Clark struggling to shoot, the Indiana Fever have lost their past two games against the Golden State Valkyries and the Las Vegas Aces.

Though dedicated fans remain optimistic about Clark’s return to form, a few were upset over how the Indiana star is managed. Some believed the team was at fault, unable to support a player of Clark’s caliber.

The drop in performance comes shortly after her quad injury. The WNBA icon is still working on regaining her momentum after missing five games due to the injury sustained on May 24 against the New York Liberty.

Jason Whitlock, a podcaster and former journalist for sites like ESPN, ranted while addressing Clark’s worrying games.

Jason Whitlock Calls Out Indiana Fever as Caitlin Clark Struggles Continue

As mentioned, the Fever have failed to secure a win with Clark’s ongoing shooting struggles during their recent road trip.

They lost 88-77 against the Valkyries at Chase Center on June 19. Clark scored 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out nine assists while going 0-of-7 from the three-point line. She shot just 3-of-14 from the field overall.

Against the Aces on June 22 (89-81 loss), Clark dropped 19 points and three rebounds with 11 assists. Her shooting struggles continued as she went 1-of-10 from beyond the arc and 7-of-20 from the field.

As per Whitlock, the WNBA without Clark is as good as over.

“Can I say this now that the NBA season is over and we’re still a few weeks away from NFL training camps? The Indiana Fever (6-7) are a hot mess. The new coach has taken 2 leaves, the top free agent (who the new coach brought with her) disappeared for ‘personal reasons,'” Whitlock said.

He referred to Clark as the “biggest asset” in “all of American sports,” raising issues with how the Fever were functioning. Head coach Stephanie White has missed games due to personal reasons, while key offseason acquisition DeWanna Bonner has been away from the team since June 12.

“The biggest asset in all of American professional sports (Caitlin Clark) is being mismanaged by a team and a league in over its heads. No one can write or talk honestly about this hot mess because it involves lesbian sexual politics, which are pervasive in women’s sports,” Whitlock added.

Criticizing the WNBA some more, he wrote:

“The WNBA is in the process of blowing the Caitlin Clark gift. Clark is miserable and off her game. It’s the most fascinating story in sports. ‘As the WNBA Turns’ is the best soap opera since Luke and Laura got married on General Hospital.”

Though some agreed with Whitlock, many fans believed Clark would bounce back from her recent shooting slump.

Clark Addresses Her Ongoing 3-Point Shooting Woes

Following the loss against the Aces (led by A’ja Wilson’s 24 points), Clark spoke to the Indy Star about her performance.

Clark admitted that her game was frustrating and that her focus would be to “continue to pour into every other aspect of the game.”

“I thought I got to the rim well, it was just certainly a tough shooting night. And, you know, you’ve got to find a way to continue to shoot and remain confident in myself, because I know I’ve put the time in,” Clark said.

The reigning Rookie of the Year has shot just 1-for-17 from three-point range over her last two games, marking only the second time in her WNBA career she has failed to make a three-pointer in consecutive games.

The Fever (6-7) are scheduled to play the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, June 24, at 10 p.m. ET.
