EA Sports Reveals Massive College Football 26 Gameplay Overhaul in Bold Deep Dive

Some major gameplay changes are coming to EA Sports College Football 26 as the new deep dive into the game shows fans what they can expect.

EA Sports revived its college football video game for the first time in a decade last summer in the form of EA Sports College Football 25. The game was a massive hit, as fans were dying to have it back and were excited to be able to use their favorite college football programs in it.

While it was great to have the game back, there were a lot of bugs and gameplay issues that fans were clamoring to have changed in the ’26 edition of the game, and it appears that EA listened as they just dropped their gameplay deep dive.

Most Significant Changes Coming to EA Sports College Football Gameplay

Many changes appear to be coming to EA Sports College Football 26 based on the company’s gameplay deep dive, which they posted on YouTube.

Below are the three most significant changes that fans need to know from the deep dive.

1) Playbook Expansion

In the ’25 edition of the game, real-life college football coaches were not included. However, that will change as over 300 coaches will be in the ’26 edition of the game, and with that will come a massive playbook expansion.

If you played the game last year, you know that some teams’ playbooks had moderate changes from others. However, it sounds like this year, each team will have a different and vast playbook that will replicate their real-life play calling. The new game will have over 2,800 brand-new plays and 45 new formations, which will add an independent gameplay experience while playing with each team.

2) Field Vision for Quarterbacks

In the ’26 edition of the game, EA has added field vision for quarterbacks based on their height. Shorter quarterbacks will have receiver buttons fade in and out of view as their own offensive lineman blocks their vision. This adds another element of realism to the game that was missing in the ’25 edition.

3) Physics-Based Tackling

In 2025, EA Sports added physics-based tackling to its college football video game and Madden. While the intent behind the addition was good, it was clunky, and users were not fans. However, it sounds like they’ve completely revamped it for EA Sports College Football 26, and it should be much more realistic.

Other Changes Coming

In addition to these three big changes, EA also revealed that the game will have a revamped wear-and-tear system, new abilities that will alter when players get hot or cold, a new substitution system, and revamped offensive and defensive line systems.
