Oilers fans appear to be in unison after Calvin Pickard was announced as the Game 5 starter against the Panthers.

The Edmonton Oilers earned a thrilling victory in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday evening, a 5-4 win in overtime thanks to Leon Draisaitl’s tally in the extra session.

The Oilers rallied in historic fashion, becoming the first NHL team in 38 previous Stanley Cup Final games to win after initially trailing 3-0.

One of the main questions on the minds of Oilers fans has now been answered. The Oilers confirmed that Calvin Pickard, who replaced Stuart Skinner after the opening 20 minutes following three goals allowed, will start Game 5.

Oilers fans appeared united after the announcement that Pickard would be in the net for Game 5 against the Florida Panthers.

This fan believes it should have never been a question, saying, “Wasn’t even a debate.”

Another fan said the Oilers couldn’t afford to find out whether Skinner could find his game again, saying, “The right call…, wait too late in the game here to be finding out if Skinner can bounce back or not.. #LetsGoOilers.”

Another fan acknowledged both Skinner and Pickard’s contributions, saying, “Both guys have battled and played massive parts in getting Edmonton to the finals two years in a row. Bring it home.”

The Oilers pulled off one of the most historic comeback wins in Stanley Cup Final history in Thursday’s Game 4, earning a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory after initially trailing 3-0 against the Panthers.

Additionally, Draisaitl made NHL history with his fourth overtime game-winning goal of the postseason, setting a new record.

Right now, it looks as though the net belongs to Pickard, who will put his undefeated 7-0 record in the 2025 postseason on the line.

The Stanley Cup Final has delivered nonstop excitement, with the Oilers taking Game 1 and the Panthers quickly evening the series, both matchups decided in overtime by a single goal. Florida then seized control in Game 3, dominating in the most one-sided contest of the series with a commanding 6-1 victory.

Game 5 will face off just after 8 p.m. ET from Rogers Place, and the series returns to Amerant Bank Arena for Game 6 on Tuesday evening.
