Boris Becker Reacts as Jannik Sinner Looks Back on French Open Disappointment

Jannik Sinner reflected on his French Open loss to Carlos Alcaraz, stressing the value of a positive perspective, an approach later backed by Boris Becker.

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner recently reflected on his French Open final loss and stressed the importance of maintaining a positive and right perspective. German tennis legend Boris Becker later agreed with Sinner’s outlook and shared his reaction online.

Sinner was sidelined following his Australian Open triumph in January due to a three-month doping ban. However, the Italian returned without missing a beat, as reflected in his impressive performance during the clay-court swing.

He reached the final of the Italian Open, where he fell to arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz, and followed a similar path at the French Open, once again losing to Alcaraz.

How Did Boris Becker React to Jannik Sinner’s Perspective on French Open Loss?

Notably, Sinner had a golden opportunity to claim his first Grand Slam title on a clay court on Sunday, June 8, leading by two sets and holding three championship points. However, he failed to convert them, and it was Alcaraz who had the last laugh in the longest French Open final in history.

The 23-year-old Italian will start his grass-court swing at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, where he is also a defending champion.

During his pre-event press conference, Sinner reflected on his French Open heartbreak, saying he could either dwell on the missed opportunities or focus on the mental resilience he showed while competing on a challenging surface like clay.

“It always depends on how you manage to react and what you choose to see.
I can focus on the missed match points or see a match where I’ve never played that well on that surface, where I stayed mentally locked in for five and a half hours,” Sinner said.

Six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker agreed with Sinner’s thought as he re-shared the clip and wrote:

“It’s always the right perspective, that matters …,” Becker wrote.

The ATP 500 event kicks off on June 16, featuring other top names like Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, and more in the draw.

Jannik Sinner Says Playing Another Tournament After  French Open Heartbreak Is a ‘Positive’

Later in the press conference, Sinner stated that playing in Halle would be a positive step for him, days after his French Open setback.

“I think that for me to play another tournament is positive, because every match is a new beginning, and I must be mentally ready to give my all on the court. Therefore, it is great I can be here in Halle. But yes, I had already a few sleepless nights, but I think every day it gets better,” he said.

While the World’s No. 1-ranked player is still processing his loss at Roland Garros, he finds strength in his family and friends, who matter more to him than tennis.

“My family stand behind me, and my friends. That is the most important thing for me. Tennis is important in my life but nevertheless are family and friends more important. Nonetheless I think often about the match,” he added.

Despite narrowly missing out on two major clay-court titles, Sinner holds a phenomenal 18-2 win-loss record this season, which he’ll look to improve in Halle.
