The Philadelphia Eagles’ general manager, Howie Roseman, has had the magic touch over recent years, with multiple outstanding draft and free agent acquisitions contributing to the enviable position the team finds itself in. While Philly has most of its Super Bowl unit intact, the secondary has seen multiple departures.
As a result, Roseman is predicted to make a splash on one of the best corners available in the market.
Philadelphia Eagles Predicted To Sign Recently Release Two-Time Pro Bowl Corner
Last season, the Eagles finished with the second-best defense on PFSN’s Defense+ metric. All year, the unit dominated, thanks to a combination of stable veterans and an elite rookie class featuring the likes of Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell.
However, the loss of Darius Slay Jr., Isaiah Rodgers, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson is going to be felt by the team in the secondary. As a result, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports wants Philadelphia to get their hands on Jaire Alexander, who the Green Bay Packers recently released over contract issues.
“All offseason, Alexander and the Green Bay Packers braced for a split over the two-time second-team All-Pro cornerback’s contract, which once looked reasonable but quickly became concerning as the cover man missed more and more time due to injuries,” Benjamin wrote.
The divorce finally occurred prior to minicamp, with the Packers outright releasing the veteran to free agency.
“Joining the rival Minnesota Vikings would be spicy and smart for both sides, while the Rams and Baltimore Ravens also make sense as playoff-contending suitors. The Philadelphia Eagles are due for a splash, though, and Alexander, who just happened to be born in Philly, would give them a higher-upside rental for their title-winning secondary.”
Alexander was a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and has spent his entire seven-year career with the Packers. As a rookie, he played in 13 games with 11 starts, recording 66 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and one interception.
Green Bay picked up his fifth-year option after he was named a second-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl in 2020. That season, he posted 51 tackles, 13 PBU’s, and an interception.

Alexander signed a four-year, $84 million extension in the 2022 offseason, but injuries and a team-issued suspension limited him to just 14 games over the last two years. The Packers suspended him for one game in 2023 after he participated in the coin toss against the Carolina Panthers despite not being designated a captain that week.
Alexander posted 43 tackles, 12 PBUs, and two interceptions over those two seasons.
The injuries have surely derailed Alexander’s career a bit, but he is only 28 years old, and a player with his talent and résumé shouldn’t be short on interest. Adding a reliable starter at cornerback is a priority for the Eagles, making the former Packer very much worth the one-year, $16 million deal Benjamin projected him to sign with Philly.
