Rams WR Davante Adams Shades Former Teams, Praises the Rams

Before he eventually finds his way to Canton and a gold jacket, Adams will suit up for the Rams this year. Playing for a team in his home state for the first time since his days at Fresno State, Adams approaches the game a bit differently. During his 11-year career, he’s seen football from all angles.

After tremendous success in Green Bay, he suffered through two-plus rough seasons in Las Vegas before the team jettisoned him to the New York Jets to end another rough year. As a result, the three-time All-Pro did not pull punches about his former team, as reported by ESPN reporter Sarah Barshop.

“Everybody’s in a good mood. It’s not like a dark cloud over the building. And I’ve experienced that quite a bit over the last few years. So, it’s a glaring difference when you come into a building like this.”

Now, in order to keep things honest, let’s trace back to Adams’ final days in Green Bay. After posting a 123-catch, 1,553-yard, 11-touchdown season, contract negotiations and a deal that he disliked forced the trade. Now, where did he end up? A playoff contender? No, the Packers shipped him to Las Vegas to join his former college quarterback, Derek Carr.

Keep in mind, the team entered that season fresh off a playoff appearance, even after head coach Jon Gruden resigned. Despite leading the league in receiving touchdowns (14) and recording his second 1,500-yard season, the team finished 6-11. The passing offense looked lopsided as Carr forced the ball to Adams an astounding 180 times. Somehow, Adams dropped seven passes and caught only 55.6% of his targets.

In his defense, the Raiders’ penchant for dysfunction remains nightmare fuel for their fan base. However, Adams knew what he walked into. Last season, when the wheels completely fell off the franchise from a football perspective, Adams demanded a trade.

Once again, a franchise caved and allowed him to play with a familiar face in Aaron Rodgers. Despite tallying another 1,000-yard season, Adams’ team did not win many games. Predictably, the Jets released Adams after the season.

With that said, Los Angeles provides him a new opportunity to flourish. This time, he will serve as the second option to Puka Nacua instead of operating as the lead wideout. The Rams, on paper, look like the best team in the NFC West and should make the playoffs.
