Is Paige Bueckers Playing Tonight? Latest Injury Update on Wings Star Ahead of Mercury Clash

Latest injury update on WNBA rookie Paige Bueckers ahead of the Dallas Wings' road game against the Phoenix Mercury.

The Dallas Wings have been struggling this year, even after building a fairly talented team. They have won just one out of their last nine games, placing head coach Chris Koclanes under immense pressure.

Paige Bueckers has been pretty unlucky with injuries. After missing the last four games due to multiple setbacks, the franchise recently delivered a positive update on her status for the upcoming game against the Phoenix Mercury in Arizona.

Will Paige Bueckers Play vs. Mercury After Missing the Last 4 Games?

The last time Bueckers played was against the Chicago Sky on May 30, when her team lost 97-92. She put up decent numbers, scoring 15 points on the night. However, tragedy struck her quickly when she was placed under concussion protocol after that game.

After missing the following three games, Bueckers was forced to miss another game while she was recovering from an illness. This marked her fourth consecutive game on the sidelines.

Recently, Koclanes announced that Bueckers cleared the concussion protocol and has also recovered from an unspecified illness, which means she is available to play against the Mercury. To the relief of Wings fans, the star rookie will also not be under any minutes restriction, which could indicate that she has made a full recovery.

Speaking to Joey Mistretta ahead of her return, Bueckers said, “There’s nowhere I’d rather be. Battled some stuff, glad to be back. Excited to keep building, get back on the court.”

Bueckers also spoke about the Wings’ internal struggles amid their 5-game losing streak.

She said, “And sometimes I feel like we’re our biggest opponent in terms of stuff that we can do to contribute to winning. So coming back, having that perspective on how we can change things. It’s just little things that we can clean up, specifically like turnovers and transition defense are a few things…Just looking how much internally we’re hurting ourselves so it’s definitely stuff that’s fixable.”

The star rookie’s comeback will surely be a boost for the team, which is struggling on both offense and defense. Even Koclanes admitted that it was tough to get everyone on the same page. With time, the Wings will be able to sort that problem out if the roster aims to collectively works toward the betterment of the team.
