Analyst Rips Ex-NFL QB’s Viral Tyreek Hill Trade Idea, Arguing It’d Be a ‘Disaster’ For the Team Acquiring the Star WR

Could Tyreek Hill be on the move? One ex-QB proposed a trade moving Hill out of Miami, and it was quickly shot down by an FS1 host.

Tyreek Hill has had one of the more turbulent offseasons in recent memory. The Miami Dolphins receiver claimed he wanted out after the 2024 season ended. Both Hill and the team quickly shut down that idea, but it’s still unclear if he’ll play for Miami next season.

One former quarterback proposed a hypothetical Hill trade, and an NFL analyst quickly tossed the idea aside.

Could the Miami Dolphins Trade Tyreek Hill? NFL Analyst Pans Floated Patriots Deal

Hill has been one of the NFL’s most explosive receivers since being drafted in the fifth round in 2016. He spent six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, won Super Bowl 54, and was traded to Miami in 2022.

He earned first-team All-Pro honors in both of his first two seasons with the Dolphins, going over 1,700 receiving yards each year. But both Hill and Miami slowed down in 2024. Hill played all 17 games, but with Tua Tagovailoa missing six games, he was limited to 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns.

Hill told the media, “I’m out” after Miami’s regular-season finale loss, but later walked it back as “frustration.”

The team also said they wouldn’t be trading their star receiver, but former quarterback David Carr isn’t convinced. NFL.com recently published an article on hypothetical trade proposals, in which Carr suggested that the Dolphins send Hill to the New England Patriots.

He acknowledged Miami’s likely resistance to dealing Hill within the division, then added, “New England has admirably overhauled the offense this offseason, and Hill would continue that trend by giving Josh McDaniels a guy who can elevate his attack to the next level due to his speed and field-stretching ability.”

That proposal didn’t sit well with “First Things First” host Nick Wright. He admitted the Patriots need help at wide receiver, but said, “I think this would be a disaster. Bringing in Tyreek Hill somewhere where he has no chance at winning a championship.”

Wright explained that while Drake Maye is on the rise, his second-year performance won’t match the level of quarterback play Hill is used to and could create issues. “That, to me, speaks Tyreek not being happy. Maybe a handful. I just think the Pats are a bad fit for Tyreek Hill.”

The Patriots already added one wideout with off-field concerns this offseason in Stefon Diggs, so bringing in Hill could test the patience of new head coach Mike Vrabel. Hill is under contract for two more seasons, meaning any potential landing spot would need to take on his massive contract through 2026.

Hill’s Future in Miami in Doubt Amid Trade Speculation, Locker Room Tension

Hill has been Tagovailoa’s most reliable target since arriving in 2022. He led the NFL with 1,799 yards and 131 touchdowns on 119 catches in 2023, and has been the centerpiece of Miami’s offense over the past three seasons.

Wright pointed out that Hill wouldn’t be happy playing for a losing team, so the list of trade destinations that would satisfy him is short. But if the Dolphins are tired of Hill’s off-field drama, they may not care where he ends up.

It would be poor front office management for Miami not to consider trade offers that could strengthen the roster. Trading Hill would hurt the team on the field, but the real question is whether he’s overstayed his welcome.
