Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer Sends Strong Message to Micah Parsons Amid Contract Standstill

Micah Parsons' TikTok prank on head coach Brian Schottenheimer leads to public contract discussion as Dallas Cowboys minicamp looms.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer and linebacker Micah Parsons have known each other for quite some time. However, by being promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach, Schottenheimer now has to deal with both sides of the ball, including Parsons.

Parsons has been widely reported to be in line for a contract extension. Jerry Jones’ actions indicate the Dallas Cowboys general manager doesn’t want to give one at this time, creating a difficult situation for the head coach. The head coach recently addressed the awkward state of things.

Brian Schottenheimer Turns Micah Parsons’ Joke Call on Its Head

In a TikTok posted by Parsons and subsequently posted on X by SleeperCowboys on Sunday, Jun. 8, Schottenheimer addressed the contract situation head-on in a conversation that was never intended to be about that.

“I know this is weird for everybody man, but look, you’re handling everything the right way bro, and this thing is going to get worked out, and again, I’m just thrilled to see where we take this thing,” Schottenheimer said. “We’re building something special and you’re going to be a huge part of it.”

The exchange happened as a result of Parsons calling people on his team to tell them “good night” in what appeared to be a joking manner. He called teammates Trevon Diggs, Tyler Smith, Osa Odighizuwa, KaVontae Turpin, and finally the head coach.

Schottenheimer took it in stride and turned the tables on Parsons, making him react to the unexpected remark instead. Of course, Schottenheimer doesn’t have the final say in what happens next.

Parsons’ Negotiation Reaches New Potential Battleground

While the contract situation between Parsons and the Cowboys is not a new story, the upcoming event could add a new wrinkle. The Cowboys are scheduled to begin mandatory minicamp this week, which could potentially set the stage for Parsons to turn up the heat.

Schottenheimer gave Parsons some nice words, but as Parsons might say, those words don’t pay the bills. If Parsons is out of patience or looking to turn up the dial, he may choose to hold out or hold in, beginning with mandatory minicamp.

That, of course, would send a clear message to Jones and take things from talking to an all-out war. Even if Parsons shows up for mandatory minicamp, he could still hold out in July or August.

Put simply, time is ticking, and the longer Jones waits, the higher the chances of losing control of one of his biggest stars.
