In what the team called a tough setback, McConnell went down with a knee injury in the fourth quarter of her debut. The Mercury confirmed the injury on Thursday but clarified that McConnell did not suffer a torn ACL.

McConnell’s injury adds to an already long list for Phoenix. Forwards Natasha Mack and Alyssa Thomas both missed the team’s last game against Golden State with back and calf injuries, respectively. All-Star Kahleah Copper remains out for several more weeks following knee surgery.

Before joining the Mercury, McConnell starred at Duquesne University, where she averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game in her senior season.

Despite Injuries, Phoenix Keeps Winning

The Mercury has stayed strong despite the injuries. They sit at 6-3 overall and are fourth in the WNBA standings. Satou Sabally has led the way with a team-high 20.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Thomas had been second in scoring before her injury, averaging 15.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists.
