WNBA Players of the Week: A’ja Wilson Is Back, Allisha Gray Shines Bright

PFSN reveals their five best performing WNBA players from the week of May 26, which saw the likes of A'ja Wilson and Allisha Gray shine.

The WNBA completed the first portion of the 2025 season, and the entertainment has been at an all-time high.

Great performances from familiar faces shone bright during the week of May 26. But five WNBA stars stood out particularly, as PFSN names this cycle’s Players of the Week.

PFSN’s WNBA Players of the Week

Sabrina Ionescu, G, New York Liberty

19.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 5.0 apg, 1.8 spg, 0.3 bpg
46.3% FG, 42.1% 3PT, 100% FT

The New York Liberty continues to roll, tying for the league’s best record at 7-0. Last week, Natasha Cloud made the list, but this week, Sabrina Ionescu, the other backcourt mate, is on it.

This week, Ionescu made four 3s per game, which tied Rhyne Howard for the most 3-pointers made per game. She had her way in the Liberty’s 85-63 blowout win over the Washington Mystics on May 30, putting up 28 points and five assists.

The New York superstar led the team in points per game and was tied with Breanna Stewart for the team lead in steals during the week. Ionescu is the player on this team who takes the Liberty over the top.

Allisha Gray, G, Atlanta Dream

26.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.0 apg, 0.5 spg
65.2% FG, 62.5% 3PT, 90.0% FT

The WNBA’s 3-point champion has gotten off to a hot start this year, as the Atlanta Dream have been a force. Last week, Allisha Gray scored the second-most points per game at 26.5. She shot over 60% from the floor and the 3-point line, and her 62.5% shooting from 3-point range was the best of any player taking two or more shots beyond the arc.

Gray scored 20+ points in consecutive games, with 25 and six assists in a win against the Los Angeles Sparks on May 27. The stellar guard play led the Dream to an undefeated week and placed them in the top three on this week’s WNBA Power Rankings.

Rhyne Howard, F, Atlanta Dream

24.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 6.0 apg, 2.5 spg, 1.0 bpg
44.7% FG, 34.8% 3PT, 85.7% FT

As the WNBA season progresses, the Dream have been rolling, winning their last four games after a 1-2 start. The recent play of the 2022 Rookie of the Year, Howard, is a massive reason behind this.

Howard lit up the nets in the Dream’s 94-87 win over the Seattle Storm on May 30. She scored 33 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished five assists while shooting 12-of-24 from the field.

Howard has been shooting the ball well from the 3-point line. She made four 3s a game last week, tying for the most per game over the stretch. Howard also led Atlanta in rebounds, assists, and steals this week, and only trailed Gray in points per game.

Satou Sabally, F, Phoenix Mercury

23.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 3.0 apg, 3.0 spg, 0.3 bpg
40.0% FG, 23.5% 3PT, 75.0% FT

The Phoenix Mercury did not have their full arsenal of weapons this week, but still managed to be 2-1. This is because of the unicorn Satou Sabally, who led the Mercury in points, rebounds, and steals per game last week.

Sabally is on a three-game streak of scoring 20 or more points. She particularly impressed against the Minnesota Lynx on May 30, finishing with 26 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block.

The Mercury have been one of the best teams in the WNBA, even with Kahleah Copper and Alyssa Thomas missing time. The luxury of having three players who can be elite on any given night will give Phoenix a chance to compete for a championship.

A’ja Wilson, C, Las Vegas Aces

27.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 4.5 apg, 3.0 spg, 3.5 bpg
52.5% FG, 40.0% 3PT, 100% FT

The Las Vegas Aces did not start the season like expected, but they went undefeated last week, and A’ja Wilson is the biggest reason why.

The best player in the league got back to her MVP form this week, averaging 27 points per game, the most in the WNBA over that span. She also averaged the most blocks per game, the second-most steals, the fourth-most rebounds, and was the only player to make over 10 shots on average.

Wilson was especially dominant in the Aces’ 96-81 win over the Sparks on May 30. She flourished with a stat line of 35 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and three blocks.

With Wilson back to playing at her elite level, the Aces continue to be in the championship conversation.
