What is the Patriots’ 2025 Offseason Grade?

PFSN’s Brandon Austin awarded the Patriots an A- grade for their 2025 offseason efforts, noting the team’s decisive actions to strengthen both the coaching staff and player roster.

“The New England Patriots are undoubtedly one of the winners of the NFL offseason,” Austin wrote. “First and foremost, they moved on from Jerod Mayo after one season as head coach, replacing him with another familiar face in Mike Vrabel.

“He’s a former Coach of the Year and has multiple playoff appearances under his belt from his tenure with Tennessee. Josh McDaniels also returns as offensive coordinator, which could bode well for Drake Maye’s development.”

The Patriots were active in free agency, signing several notable players:

  • Stefon Diggs, WR (3 years, $63.5 million)
  • Milton Williams, DT (4 years, $104 million)
  • Harold Landry III, EDGE (3 years, $43.5 million)
  • Carlton Davis III, CB (3 years, $54 million)
  • Garrett Bradbury, C (2 years, $9.5 million)
  • Morgan Moses, OT (3 years, $24 million)

In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Patriots focused on bolstering their offensive line and skill positions:

  • Will Campbell, OT, LSU (1st round, 4th overall)
  • TreVeyon Henderson, RB, Ohio State (2nd round)
  • Jared Wilson, C, Georgia (3rd round)

Campbell, a consensus All-American and recipient of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy in 2024, is expected to start at left tackle.

The projected starting offensive line for the 2025 season is:

  • LT: Will Campbell (R)
  • LG: Cole Strange
  • C: Garrett Bradbury
  • RG: Mike Onwenu
  • RT: Morgan Moses

This revamped line aims to improve upon last season’s performance, where the Patriots ranked last in run block win rate and second-to-last in pass block win rate.

Notable departures include cornerback Jonathan Jones, center David Andrews, and quarterbacks Joe Milton III and Jacoby Brissett.

While these changes don’t guarantee a return to Super Bowl contention, they represent a significant step toward restoring competitiveness in Foxborough.

New England Patriots 2025 Schedule: Key Matchups and Outlook

The Patriots’ 2025 regular-season schedule features several notable games and a favorable strength of schedule, offering opportunities for the team to improve upon recent performances.

Overall, the Patriots’ strength of schedule in 2025 is considered the fourth-easiest in the NFL based on 2024 opponent win percentages (.429), providing a conducive environment for the team’s rebuilding efforts.

But PFSN notes that, “Sharing a division with an elite team isn’t ideal, and if the Dolphins can live up to their potential, asking the Patriots to post a .500 record in the division is difficult.

“Their non-divisional games project as friendly (Saints, Giants, Falcons, and Raiders), but let’s not forget that this team, along with the Panthers, is the worst out-of-division team in the NFL over the past two seasons (4-18 record).”

The season opener at Gillette Stadium marks the beginning of the Mike Vrabel era. The game carries additional intrigue with former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady now a minority owner of the Raiders.

Week 16: at Baltimore Ravens

Facing a perennial AFC contender on the road will test the Patriots’ resilience and playoff aspirations.
