‘Go Out There Like a Bunch of Crazed Dogs’ — Super Bowl Champion Lawrence Taylor Fires Up Giants Defense With Surprise Visit

The New York Giants were surprised by one of the greatest players in the history of the NFL as Lawrence Taylor spoke to the defense.

The New York Giants have been one of the teams that have been looking to make some massive improvements after almost a full decade of struggling. The defense has been the team’s calling card last season as they have created one of the better front sevens in the league with the likes of Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns leading the charge. Now, they added linebacker Abdul Carter with the third pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to that as well.

The defense is looking to take a step in the right direction after finishing last season with a 71.3 Defense+ grade, which was 20th in the sport. Sometimes, getting a surprise visit from one of the best players not only in franchise history but the history of football could awaken something in the team, and that is what coach Brian Daboll is hoping for.

Lawrence Taylor Surprises New York Giants Defense and Fires Them Up

Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker and former Super Bowl Champion Lawrence Taylor made a surprise appearance at the team facility and addressed the team’s defense on how they need to play together as one big unit.

“Giant defense. I mean, that’s the most important thing. When I came into and sat into the room, just like you guys are right now. When I first got here, it was real important to me for me to know what everybody is doing,” Lawrence said.

“…You’ve got to know your position. And if I do my job right, guess what? He becomes a better player. … go out there like a bunch of crazed dogs and have some fun.  And that’s what I’m talking about.”

The Giants have made strides in improving their roster this offseason as they added defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris, cornerback Paulson Adebo, and safety Jevon Holland as projected starters on defense.

With the offense completely revamping the quarterback room with Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart, the team is expecting to make a massive jump.

The team has a tough 2025 schedule as they are facing the AFC West and NFC North. This defense is going to be tested against some of the top offenses in the entire sport and if they take Taylor’s words to heart, they will need to focus on playing as one unit rather than 11 individuals, and how they look going forward is going to be a testament to how well they prepare for the season.

This season could see a lot of losses as they are facing a lot of quality teams, but seeing improvements during the game is going to be critical for the team’s success going forward.
