Adam Schefter Offers New Timeline on Aaron Rodgers’ Potential Steelers Signing

NFL insider Adam Schefter offered an update on the future of Aaron Rodgers and speculated on the timeline of him being signed by the Steelers.

It remains to be seen whether or not future first-ballot Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers will be joining an NFL team this year. If he is joining a team, the most likely option appears to be the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Adam Schefter discussing a possible timeline on when that might happen.

Adam Schefter Speaks on Aaron Rodgers Joining the Steelers

ESPN senior insider Adam Schefter recently joined ESPN Milwaukee to chat about when and where he thinks Rodgers will end up by the start of the season.

“My guess is he’s going to wind up going (to Pittsburgh)…I would think Rodgers is on the table here in the next week or so,” Schefter said Wednesday.

Schefter also mentioned how Steelers owner Art Rooney expects Rodgers to be on the roster this season. No one is more plugged into these big matters than Schefter.

With just days until mandatory minicamp takes place in Pittsburgh, it seems as though this news points towards Rodgers being a Steeler in his 21st NFL season.

Can the Steelers Contend With Aaron Rodgers?

Adding a future first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback like Rodgers to the mix makes the Steelers instant contenders. Additionally, the trade for star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf should help the passing attack out in the Steel City. This Steelers defense is also one of the best in the league.

These three ingredients make the Steelers a little bit more than playoff contenders.

Now, if you are reading this and think that Rodgers is too old or too beaten up to play elite football, remember that he battled through injuries on a subpar New York Jets team last season and ended up tossing 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and 3,897 yards.

If Rodgers can post those numbers in 2025 for the Steelers, a team that has a strong foundation and knows how to make the playoffs, that could be a problem for opposing teams.

Of course, it is also fun to think about Rodgers playing for head coach Mike Tomlin. These two have been some of the best in their respective fields for almost two decades. Not to mention the fact that Rodgers was able to get the better of Tomlin and the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.

But if Rodgers’ career is ticking down, and if Tomlin’s time in Pittsburgh could be dwindling down due to a lack of playoff success in recent years, the average NFL fan should feel excited to see these two figures go down swinging together. That is, if an agreement with the four-time MVP can be reached.
