Jarvis Landry Fantasy Outlook: What to expect on Sunday night

Only a few games remain for fantasy football managers to secure their trip to the championship round next week. Making the correct decision on someone like Cleveland Browns WR Jarvis Landry could have a massive impact on your fantasy team’s chances to play beyond Week 15. Heading to their game against the Ney York Giants on Sunday Night Football, what should we expect from Jarvis Landry tonight?

Jarvis Landry is in the middle of his best stretch of the season

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry is in the midst of his most productive stretch of the season. Landry has racked up 30 targets over his last three games. On those, he has caught 22 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns.

Since Week 11, Jarvis Landry has averaged 16.3 PPR points per game and is the WR13. That’s ahead of guys like DeAndre Hopkins, Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Tyler Lockett, and Cooper Kupp.

Landry (WR33) has 87 targets on the season, 60 receptions for 728 yards, and two touchdowns.

In his 13 games this year, Landry only has one game over 100 yards receiving. A stark contrast to previous seasons where he had been one of the more productive receivers in fantasy.

Landry is in danger of his worst fantasy season since 2014

With two games left to play in the season, Landry needs at least 13 targets to hit 100 on the season. That is a significant number as he has never had less than 112 in a single-season (2014 rookie season). A number that seems out of reach at this point.

Landry has over 131 targets outside of his rookie season in every season, along with a minimum of 81 receptions.

In yardage, Landry’s 728 is the lowest since hs 758 in 2014. He has had at least 976 in each season, including three years over 1,000 yards. In 2019, Landry had a career-high 1,174 yards even after adding Odell Beckham Jr. in the offseason.

It’s not that Jarvis Landry has been fighting for looks. Beckham has been out since Week 7, and for a decent chunk of the season, Nick Chubb was out as well.

In Week 14, Jarvis Landry disappointed fantasy managers despite a high target share

In what turned out to be a massive offensive performance for both teams, Landry was a bit of a disappointment. While Baker Mayfield threw 47 times for 343 yards, Landry ended with only 52.

It’s more frustrating when you see he had nine targets, second-most on Sunday behind Rashard Higgins. The rise of Higgins has been a welcome boost to the Browns, who have lacked a competent WR2.

Higgins led this group with 10 targets last week; he caught six of them for 68 yards and a touchdown. The week before, he had 95 yards and a touchdown.

Donovan People-Jones also had 74 yards last week and 92 yards and a touchdown the week before that.

What should we expect out of Jarvis Landry in Week 15 for fantasy?

The Giants have been tough on opposing passing games this season as they allow the 12th-fewest fantasy points per game to the wide receiver position. New York has given up the fourth-fewest passing touchdowns in the NFL this season as well. The Giants have allowed just 13 wide receivers to finish as top-36 options against them this year.

The large issue is the absence of Giants CB James Bradberry. For a veteran, Bradberry pulled a dumb rookie mistake. He was placed on the NFL’s reserved list by going to get a massage at an unapproved facility not associated with the team. However, he rarely goes into the slot, so the matchup against Landry would likely not happen too often.

Fourth-round rookie Darnay Holmes has been the one defending slot WRs. He has allowed 35-of-45 passing for 337 yards, though he’s still yet to be charged with a touchdown. There have been eight slot-heavy receivers who’ve seen six-plus targets against the Giants. All but one finished as the WR46 or better. However, only JuJu Smith-Schuster, CeeDee Lamb, and Cooper Kupp finished better than WR30.

The biggest issue is the Browns are going to focus on the rushing game. This team is lead by Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. The attack is led by Nick Chubb, who is fifth in the NFL with 881 yards and tied for seventh with nine rushing touchdowns. Kareem Hunt is the dual-threat out of the backfield, gaining 772 yards on the ground and 252 through the air.

Because both of these players are so good and the Browns are playing with a lead early, the need to rely on Baker Mayfield and the passing game is limited. Jarvis Landry is a solid WR3 but lacks the upside to win your fantasy matchup in Week 15. However, players with consistent floors are the ones who help you have consistent results in this game.
