Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe is one of the more intriguing prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. Under former head coach Nick Saban, Alabama has produced several successful quarterbacks, including Bryce Young, Jalen Hurts, and Tua Tagovailoa.
Milroe is more of a wild card than those predecessors. One thing working in his favor: The 2025 draft features one of the weakest quarterback classes in recent memory. He’s often projected as a Day 2 pick, like in PFSN’s recent three-round mock draft, where he goes 42nd overall to the New York Jets. But he’s been all over the board, with some analysts even projecting him in the first round.
Jalen Milroe Gets Paid Ultimate Compliment
Milroe’s speed is one of his best traits. He didn’t take part in physical testing at the NFL Combine, opting instead to focus on quarterback-specific drills. But at Alabama’s Pro Day, he reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds. Top prospects Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders also skipped Combine testing, so comparisons are limited, but many believe Milroe is the fastest quarterback in this year’s class.
He’s so fast that he received one of the highest compliments a quarterback can get. Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry recently spoke with reporter Mary Kay Cabot.
According to Cabot’s post on X, Berry said of Milroe: “Rare physical talent … maybe the only quarterback who’s faster than Lamar Jackson.”

That’s high praise, especially considering Jackson earned a first-overall grade of 99.8 (A+) from PFSN’s QB+ metrics in 2024. Jackson was in the MVP conversation thanks in large part to his speed. Over time, he’s evolved from a run-heavy threat to someone who can also win games with his arm.
PFSN’s scouting report on Milroe says he may be the most physically gifted quarterback in the class. Still, he’s seen as a bit of a project—“a first-round skill set with fifth-round tape.”
Milroe has a strong arm, solid frame, and the kind of intangibles coaches look for. He flashed serious upside at Alabama with some highlight-reel plays.
But in 2024, his first season under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, expectations were high — and he didn’t quite deliver. His decision-making, accuracy, and ball security became question marks, causing him to slide in early mock drafts.
The Browns have an interesting setup heading into the draft. They pick second overall, and many mocks link them to Sanders, with Ward expected to go first to the Titans. But Cleveland also traded for Kenny Pickett and signed Joe Flacco.
The team is still feeling the effects of the Deshaun Watson trade, and neither Flacco nor Pickett seems like a long-term answer. There are also questions about whether Sanders can be that guy. Could the Browns be eyeing Milroe to kick off Day 2 with the 33rd pick? Time will tell.
