15-Year NFL QB Goes Viral for Interfering With a Foul Ball, Upsetting Dodgers 2-Time All-Star Max Muncy

Former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete went viral for possibly interfering with Max Muncy trying to make a catch on a foul ball in Japan.

Interfering with a foul ball at a baseball game can shift momentum in a bad way — just ask Steve Bartman. But sometimes, it’s not so cut and dry.

Former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete made headlines when he reached out and slipped his glove under Los Angeles Dodgers star Max Muncy’s during Game 1 of the Tokyo Series in Japan.

Muncy appeared to misjudge the ball as it floated into the stands, allowing Peete to cradle it and mean-mug for the cameras. As Muncy walked away looking confused and frustrated, he flicked his glove at Peete.

Did Rodney Peete Interfere with Max Muncy?

First things first — the Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1 in Game 1 of the Tokyo Series. No harm was done. The play likely didn’t affect the outcome.

Still, the internet exploded over Peete’s catch. FOX Sports edited the video to freeze-frame on Peete’s mean-mugging face and overlaid the theme music from HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” — a moment Larry David couldn’t have scripted any better.

MLFootball posted the same viral clip with a different caption, referencing Bartman: “Former #Eagles quarterback Rodney Peete just caught and stole the ball away from Dodgers Max Muncy in Japan … The Bartman.”

Muncy looked ready to throw a tantrum, shaking his head and muttering under his breath. His reaction fueled a debate in the comments.

Some believed Peete interfered and that Muncy had every right to be upset. Others — a larger group of fans who analyzed the sequence — concluded that Muncy had no chance of catching the ball.

Looking closely, you can see Muncy’s momentum slowed when his glove hit the foul netting. He actually whiffed on his attempt, and the ball casually dropped into Peete’s glove, which was positioned right underneath.

Conclusion: Peete didn’t technically interfere — at least not by the eye test.

Who Is Ex-NFL Quarterback Rodney Peete?

Rodney Peete played 15 seasons in the NFL, including a notable 1995 playoff run with the Philadelphia Eagles. He led them to a shocking 58-37 rout of the Detroit Lions in the NFC Wild-Card Round.

Peete retired in 2005 and transitioned into sports media, including a stint on FOX Sports’ “The Best Damn Sports Show Period.” He is married to actress Holly Robinson Peete, and their son, Rodney Peete Jr., works for the Dodgers.

Peete threw for 16,338 yards and 76 touchdowns over 15 NFL seasons, completing 57.3% of his passes. He played in 104 games (87 starts, 45-42 record) while suiting up for six different teams: the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, Oakland Raiders, and Washington.
