‘Go Get That Championship’ – WNBA Fans Raise Title Hopes as Sophie Cunningham Arrives in Indiana to Team Up With Caitlin Clark

Sophie Cunningham's arrival via trade has sparked a new wave of excitement among Fever fans as Caitlin Clark and Indiana look to win the WNBA Championship.

Sophie Cunningham is the newest addition to the Indiana Fever, and she’s excited about what the future could bring. Fever fans hope that is the WNBA Championship as the former Phoenix Mercury guard joined Indiana as part of a four-team trade involving the Mercury, Fever, Dallas Wings, and the Connecticut Sun.

WNBA Fans Rave Over Sophie Cunningham’s Arrival To Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever

The Fever found success in Caitlin Clark’s rookie season last year, making the playoffs before a quick exit against the Sun. Now, they are strengthening the supporting cast around the Rookie of the Year, giving up NaLyssa Smith and the No.8 pick to land Cunningham and the No.19 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft through the four-team trade.

Cunningham averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists last season and looks to make an impact with the Fever this year as they chase the WNBA Championship with Clark in the lead.

“He guys, it’s Sophie Cunningham here. I’m finally in Indiana, and I’m so excited to be here and meet all of you. See you guys at the game,” she said upon her arrival.

Cunningham’s arrival has sparked a wave of excitement among the Fever fanbase, and they are already aiming to win the NBA Championship.

“So excited! Go get that championship,” one fan commented.

“Welcome to Indy and our community. Looking forward to seeing you ladies burning up the court this season on the way to a @WNBA championship,” another fan wrote.

Cunningham is the latest addition to Fever’s new-look lineup for the season. Indiana has already signed many other stars, such as Sydney Colson, Brianna Turner, DeWanna Bonner, and Natasha Howard, and one fan suggested that the Fever was now looking like a dynasty on paper.

“Thrilled to have her on the Fever along with the other trades that look like a potential dynasty on paper,” they wrote.

Here are some more reactions:

Great teammate and beautiful women that can ball. Imagine, at times, KM and SC on the wing running with CC. Dammmm… Very dangerous and exciting once they sync the chemistry,” one fan noted.

“The Fever just got more gorgeous,” another fan joked.

“Start watching the fever for CC. Stay for Sophie,” a fan commented.

The Fever went 20-20 last season and made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. However, they will only field five players — Clark, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull and Damiris Dantas — from the 2024 squad this season with several new faces arriving in Indiana over the last few weeks.

Now, with new teammates, more experience, and a stronger, more seasoned Clark, the Fever are eyeing the top spot in the WNBA.
