Tyler Boyd became a free agent after the 2023 season, finishing with 67 receptions for 667 yards and two touchdowns. At 29, he still offers reliable production and experience that could benefit a team in need of a steady target.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Boyd was born in Clairton, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh and the home of the Clairton Works, which is operated by U.S. Steel. He produced a WPIAL record of 117 touchdowns and was the fifth-leading rusher in the history of the league as a quarterback, running back, wide receiver, defensive back, and punt returner.
Boyd played college football for Pitt, compiling 248 receptions for 3,361 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns, along with 58 rushes for 465 yards and a touchdown. Jeff Hathhorn of 93.7 The Fan believes that Boyd could be coming back home to Pittsburgh after spending the first eight years of his career in Cincinnati.
“Boyd really wants to come home,” Hathhorn said. “I would say it’s 50/50, ’cause from what I’m hearing, there’s a couple other teams involved that have interest in Tyler. It’s gonna be, can they make that work financially?
“Listen, we can always say, look at all the hometown guys and bring ’em all home. I think this is where a hometown guy wants to come home in an area of need, in an area of huge need. The Steelers have to find some type of veteran free agent wide receiver in this time frame. And I think it sets up well. I think it’s a 50/50 that Boyd would be a Steeler.”
The Pittsburgh Steelers could use Boyd. They need each other, as the Steelers have a hole at wide receiver outside of George Pickens and the recently signed Van Jefferson. Boyd can provide another option for Russell Wilson or Justin Fields to hit in stride.
Baltimore Ravens
As for the Baltimore Ravens, they’d love nothing more than to steal a hometown receiver from Pittsburgh. Boyd has been a consistent presence against Baltimore, with 61 catches for 761 yards and three touchdowns.

The Ravens need another wide receiver after releasing Odell Beckham Jr. and losing Devin Duvernay to the Jacksonville Jaguars. After Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor, it’s not entirely out of the equation that Boyd could slot into their gallery of receivers.
Kansas City Chiefs
On March 18, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Hollywood Brown to a one-year contract, worth up to $11 million. Outside of Brown, the Chiefs have Justin Watson, Rashee Rice, Kadarius Toney, and Skyy Moore returning.
Boyd is a skilled route runner and would complement the outside threat of Brown, along with the playmaking ability of Travis Kelce. Boyd’s versatility as a slot receiver would allow Patrick Mahomes to have a valuable target in the short-to-intermediate passing game.
