Podcast: Time To Take a Deep Breath of Hopium, Miami Dolphins Fans

As the NFL year and free agency officially begin, the Miami Dolphins have lost more than they have gained. But there's no need to panic -- yet.

Yes, there’s cause for concern with how the last couple of weeks have unfolded for the Miami Dolphins. But no, do not count the Dolphins out of the AFC race after two days of free agency.

Where Miami Dolphins Stand Early in Free Agency

Certainly, it’s not great that the Dolphins have lost a bunch of playmakers on defense and have replaced them with solid but not spectacular vets.

And there are definitely lingering questions about an offensive line that lost Robert Hunt and probably needs two more starters.

But let’s take a breath here.

The Dolphins still have a top-10 quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa. They still have the league’s best wide receiver duo in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. And Jonnu Smith will be a big help at tight end.

Miami still has a top-10 running back room with Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane, Jeff Wilson Jr. (for now), and Salvon Ahmed. They still have one of the NFL’s best tackle tandems in Terron Armstead and Austin Jackson.

Assuming Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips make a full recovery, the Dolphins will have plenty of pass rush with those two, Zach Sieler, and Shaq Barrett.

Miami’s linebackers have the chance to be excellent, with Jordyn Brooks and Anthony Walker joining David Long.

Jevon Holland and Jalen Ramsey are still special players in the defensive backfield, and the Dolphins certainly aren’t done adding there.

And, oh yeah: Mike McDaniel has improved every year as a head coach and should take another step forward in 2024.

Put another way: There’s a reason the Dolphins are still 10-to-1 to make the Super Bowl and 19-to-1 to win it. This is not some terrible team.

So take a deep breath, Dolphins fans, and listen to our latest PFN Miami Dolphins Podcast for a needed dose of hopium.
