Skip Bayless Unwavering in Belief That Joe Burrow Is Better Than Patrick Mahomes

If Skip Bayless is known for anything, it’s that once he has a take, he’s sticking to it. Such is the case with Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow and Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. Despite Mahomes’ talent and accolades putting him in rare air, Bayless is unwavering on his preference for Burrow.

While most of the NFL world understands and acknowledges that Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league right now, Bayless once said he would prefer to have Burrow. And as we head into 2024 with Mahomes coming off his third Super Bowl win, Bayless isn’t changing his mind now.

Skip Bayless Stands by Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes Take

While talking on the latest episode of The Skip Bayless Show, the long-time media personality took the time to defend his Burrow over Mahomes take, stating that it was more than just an opinion and that he can prove it as well.

“After the Super Bowl, I got into it with my guys Keyshawn [Johnson] and Michael Irvin because I STILL believe with my heart and soul that Joe Burrow is just a little better than Mahomes. I can back it up, and I can prove it.”

While comparing the two quarterbacks, Bayless used each player’s head-to-head performances against the San Francisco 49ers as a litmus test for which player is better.

“All he did (Burrow) against that same 49er defense that Mahomes struggled against, all Joe Burrow did against that defense was play the best quarterback game I seen all season long. The best, No. 1.”

“Joe Burrow is slightly better than Patrick Mahomes, and I will go to my grave repeating all the above again and again on Undisputed. Be ready Keyshawn, be ready Michael…”

While Burrow is widely viewed as one of the NFL’s best young quarterbacks and is a megastar in his own right in this league, Bayless is going out on a bit of a limb to provide what he believes to be a fact.

One stat that does help Bayless’ argument is the head-to-head matchups between the two QBs — Burrow owns that definitively. In three matchups against one another, Burrow and the Bengals are 3-1 against Mahomes and the Chiefs in both the regular season and postseason.
