How Did Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift Meet?

As the Chiefs aim to bounce back from a crushing Super Bowl loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, one storyline remains prominent — the romance between star tight end Kelce and world-renowned musician Swift.

The two have taken over headlines and media coverage through their romance, and Swift has been seen at plenty of games over the last few seasons to support her boyfriend.

The pairing has been official for some time now, and the two shared an on-field kiss after the Chiefs won the 2024 AFC Championship Game. Swift also attended the Super Bowl in 2025 to cheer on Kelce after flying back from Tokyo, where she was performing a leg of her wildly successful Eras Tour.

Here’s what you need to know about Kelce and Swift’s relationship and how it all began with a failed friendship bracelet exchange.

It isn’t clear exactly when Kelce and Swift met, but it appears that they did so as a result of a story that Kelce shared on his “New Heights” podcast.

Kelce explained in July 2023 that he had attended a performance of Swift’s “Eras Tour” at Arrowhead Stadium during the NFL offseason. While there, he planned to participate in the friendship bracelet exchange that has become customary among Swift’s fans — known as “Swifties” — during her shows.

He said he wanted to gift a friendship bracelet to Swift herself.

“I received a bunch of them being there,” Kelce said of the bracelets. “But I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”

Ultimately, Kelce’s efforts to do so failed. He explained that left him “a little butthurt,” especially since the singer couldn’t meet him after the show.

“I was disappointed because she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Kelce said.

When the podcast was released on July 26, Kelce had still not yet met Swift. So, it appears that the two of them began “quietly hanging out” at some point after that story went viral.

“We started hanging out right after that,” Swift said. “So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game. We would never be psychotic enough to hard-launch a first date.”

Since then, their relationship has developed into one of the most talked-about romances today.

“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there, and we don’t care,” Swift said.

Preview for Travis Kelce’s 13th NFL Season

Despite speculations about a potential retirement after the brutal loss in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce is continuing to play football.

He is getting ready for his 13th season in the league, and has his sights set on winning the fourth Super Bowl of his career.

The Chiefs have a better roster than last year, and it wouldn’t surprise many if they make a fourth straight Super Bowl this upcoming season.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is determined to bounce back from the loss against the Eagles, and for Kelce, retiring from the NFL after winning another Super Bowl will be the ultimate dream.

Kansas City will begin its season in Brazil, where it takes on the Los Angeles Chargers in a crucial matchup for the race to win the AFC West. Kelce finished last season with 97 receptions for 823 yards and just three touchdowns.

However, with Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown back healthy and an improved version of Xavier Worthy, expect the Chiefs’ tight end to be more impactful in the red zone.
