The Kansas City Chiefs are in the Super Bowl for the second straight season and for the fourth time in five years. They will have an experience edge, with several players returning from last year’s Super Bowl win against the Philadelphia Eagles. Kansas City also has a number of players that have been on all four Super Bowl teams.

Chiefs Returning From Last Year’s Super Bowl

Kansas City has nine defensive and eight offensive players that started last year’s Super Bowl on the roster. Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi and guard Joe Thuney are injured and will miss the game.

The Chiefs return three key special-teams members: kicker Harrison Butker, punter Tommy Townsend, and long snapper James Winchester.

In Super Bowl 57, Kansas City had 158 rush yards, and all the players with rush yards are expected to play. The Chiefs return 124 of 182 pass yards from last season’s game. Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who caught a team-high seven passes, played with the Patriots this season and wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who caught a touchdown pass in last year’s game, is not expected to play.

The Chiefs have six other players on offense returning, along with six defensive players that played in last season’s Super Bowl. Six other members of the Chiefs were on the team last season but did not play in the Super Bowl. Along with Nnadi and Joe Thuney, the Chiefs have four other players on injured reserve that played in last year’s Super Bowl.

Players From Last Three Super Bowls With Chiefs

Eight members on the Chiefs’ roster this season were with the team in the last three Super Bowl seasons. Five players have played in all three Super Bowls that Kansas City has played in since the 2019 season.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 61.8% of his passes — with five touchdowns and four interceptions — in his first three Super Bowls. He was named MVP against the 49ers and Eagles.

Tight end Travis Kelce had 22 catches for 257 yards and two touchdowns in three Super Bowls. In the first matchup against the 49ers, he had 10 receptions for 133 yards.

Defensive tackle Chris Jones has started in all three Super Bowls and has been on the field for at least 78% of the defensive snaps in each game.

Kicker Harrison Butker has made five of six field-goal attempts in three Super Bowls. His long is from 52 yards, and his one miss was from 42 yards. Butker kicked the game-winning field goal in the final seconds last season against the Eagles. He has made all nine of his extra-point attempts.

Guard Nick Allegretti has played in all three Super Bowls, with most of his snaps on special teams. He is starting in place of first-team All-Pro Joe Thuney, who is out with a pectoral injury for the second straight game.

Long snapper James Winchester has played in all three Super Bowls.

Wide receiver Mecole Hardman played in the first two Super Bowls but missed last year’s game with an injury. He had three catches for six yards in the two games.

Linebacker Darius Harris was with the Chiefs in 2019 but did not play in any games. He has played in the team’s last two Super Bowls, and most of his snaps have been on special teams.
