49ers vs. Jaguars Prediction, Picks, Odds Today: San Francisco Debuts the Nick Bosa-Chase Young Era

San Francisco looks to snap a three-game losing streak in this 49ers vs. Jaguars matchup. Let's look at the odds and best bet prediction for this tilt.

The San Francisco 49ers (three straight losses) and Jacksonville Jaguars (five straight wins) are two teams clearly heading in opposite directions these days. Will their trends — both winning and losing — continue this week? Here’s a breakdown of this matchup.

49ers vs. Jaguars Prediction

While the Jaguars probably wish the bye week never came, the 49ers had to feel glad to have a break for a week.

Still, as one of only three games this week featuring two teams with winning records, this is one of the glamour matchups for Week 10. And there is no shortage of interesting storylines surrounding this contest:

  • The 49ers get to unveil their dream team of pass rushers, with newly acquired Chase Young, along with Nick Bosa, lining up on the edge.
  • The former No. 1 overall pick (Trevor Lawrence) faces former Mr. Irrelevant (Brock Purdy).
  • And the top two leaders in scrimmage yards among running backs are meeting — San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey (944 yards) vs. Travis Etienne Jr. (849).

The 49ers, who probably felt like they were stuck at a blackjack table the last three weeks — forced to stick on 17 — are still solidly in the playoff, not to mention division, picture. At 5-3, the 49ers are tied with the Seahawks in the NFC West, and those teams still have yet to meet.

The Jaguars, on the other hand, are threatening to run away with the AFC South. Jacksonville entered Week 10 with a two-game lead over the 4-4 Houston Texans, who are playing another of the NFL’s hot teams of late, the Cincinnati Bengals.

Lawrence has been impressive for the Jaguars, posting a passer rating of at least 100 in five games this season. On the other hand, Purdy has struggled mightily, with 0 touchdown passes, four interceptions, and a passer rating of 36.4 during this three-game losing streak.

And while Bosa and Young will receive a lot of attention, you can’t forget that the Jaguars’ Josh Allen is tied for fifth in the NFL in sacks with nine.

The winning and losing streaks for these two teams notwithstanding, the biggest streak of the week in this game belongs to McCaffrey, who has scored a touchdown in 17 straight games, tying him with Lenny Moore for the longest such streak in NFL history.

Injury-wise, 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams (ankle) is questionable, and guard Aaron Banks (toe) is out. But the best news is the return of Deebo Samuel, after he missed two games — and most of a third — with a hairline fracture in his shoulder.

The Jaguars will once again be without wide receiver Zay Jones because of a nagging knee problem.

It’s difficult to imagine the 49ers, a team viewed by most as a Super Bowl contender, actually losing a fourth straight game. And the combination of some key injured players getting healthy, along with the debut of Young, figures to make this a much better team that was on display the last month.

Still, I’m going with the home dog here. Jacksonville is 6-2 overall against the spread, and 5-1 ATS when facing opponents with equal rest (both teams were on a bye last week).

Being a betting favorite on the road has not been a good spot for the 49ers recently. They are just 1-3 ATS this season as a road favorite, and 3-7 ATS over the last two seasons in this spot.

I’m calling for the Jaguars to make a big leap into Super Bowl contender status with a win over one of the league’s best teams.
