The very low total for this week’s Thursday Night Football game is no surprise considering the matchup of the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears. But even with these two terrible offenses, points are going to be scored, right?
This Panthers vs. Bears game is one of those matchups where you need betting action to avoid falling asleep watching. So without further ado, here are our favorite anytime touchdown scorer bets for tonight’s game.
Panthers vs. Bears Best Anytime Touchdown Scorer Bets
DJ Moore (+185 at FanDuel)
Blewis:Â DJ Moore has had this game circled on his calendar since the schedule came out back in May, as this will be his first matchup against his former team.
Since Justin Fields has been out, Moore’s production has taken a big hit, as he hasn’t gotten in the end zone since his hat trick on Thursday Night Football in Week 5. Tyson Bagent has thrown for three touchdowns in four games, all of which came in the red zone and none to Moore.
For the season, Moore has a red-zone target share of just 21.6%, which is second on the team behind Cole Kmet at 27%. Besides a garbage-time touchdown down 38 points to the Kansas City Chiefs, all of Moore’s touchdowns have come on big plays outside of the red zone this season. After having an extremely low aDOT in his opening start, Bagent has shown more of a tendency to take deep shots in recent weeks at least.
There isn’t much of a statistical argument here, but I’m all for a revenge narrative, especially when the player is as talented as Moore is.
Tyson Bagent (+340 at FanDuel)
Katz:Â What an ugly Thursday night game. That seems to be the theme of the season. Unfortunately, that makes it exceedingly difficult to find a player to recommend to score with any confidence. Instead, we pivot to focusing purely on value relative to odds.
There’s a lot of uncertainty in this game. How will the Bears divide touches in their backfield? Will anyone step up behind Adam Thielen in the Panthers’ passing game? Will Bryce Young prioritize completing passes to players on his team this week? Who knows?!
Thinking outside the box here, the Bears are more likely to score in general, and if they score, it is likely to be on the ground. There is no value in either running back, though. So how about a sneaky recommendation of Tyson Bagent to scramble one in at the goal line?
Adam Thielen (+195 at DraftKings)
Soppe:Â The Bears own the sixth-lowest opponent aDOT this season, and that stat alone would put Thielen and his route-running savvy in play. Add in the fact that DJ Chark Jr. (TD once every 5.7 catches this season) is unlikely to play and that the Bears own the best per-carry run defense in the league — I’m surprised that Thielen ranks fifth in terms of odds of getting into the end zone in this spot.
D’Onta Foreman (+140 at DraftKings)
Bearman: There are a lot of unknowns in this Thursday Night Football classic, but I fully expect the Bears to be able to utilize their run game all night with Khalil Herbert likely back and D’Onta Foreman playing great.
The Panthers are 28th in the NFL in run defense, allowing 132 rushing yards per game. With Foreman getting the most reps in the last few weeks, I am going to roll the dice with him getting into the end zone.
Cole Kmet (+195 at DraftKings)
Rolfe:Â The revelation that Bagent is starting is good news for Kmet. In the past two weeks, Bagent has targeted Kmet 18 times, two of which he caught for a touchdown last week against the New Orleans Saints.
The only concern here is that the Panthers have been strong against tight ends in the past three weeks, holding the position to four receptions on 12 targets for just 32 yards.
