It’s been more than a month since Joe Burrow suffered a calf strain that threatened to derail the beginning of his 2023 campaign, but the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback returned to practice on Wednesday.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow Is Back at Practice
After Burrow went down on July 27, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor suggested the former No. 1 overall pick would miss “several weeks” with his calf injury.
Burrow conducted a pre-game workout before Cincinnati’s first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, indicating that his injury wasn’t all that serious.
Over the weekend, Taylor hinted at Burrow’s positive recovery.
“He looks great,” Taylor said. “I mean physically, just walking around, he looks probably as good as he’s ever looked at this point. So that’s a positive.”

In four seasons with the Bengals, Burrow has never had a “normal” offseason.
In 2020, Burrow’s practice time was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he was still recovering from the torn ACL that ended his 2020 campaign. He started camp on time but had built in rest/rehab days. And last year, Burrow missed the first few weeks of camp after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.
Now that he’s returned to practice, Burrow shouldn’t have any trouble being ready for Week 1. The Bengals are scheduled to play the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 1, giving Burrow 11 days to prepare for the season opener.
