Miami Dolphins Get Clarity on Braylon Sanders Injury

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel provided a Braylon Sanders injury update Wednesday morning.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins wide receiver Braylon Sanders left Tuesday’s joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons on a medical cart.

The good news for both Sanders and the Dolphins: That shouldn’t be the last time we see him on the practice field this season.

Miami Dolphins WR Braylon Sanders Injury Update

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel provided the following update about the team’s second-year wide receiver during his Wednesday morning news conference:

“We were fortunate. You know, it was a lower body injury that didn’t produce any structural damage. So, fortunately, expect him back, not today or tomorrow, but in the foreseeable future, hopefully next week or something like that. But, we’ll, we’ll see how it goes.”

Sanders can’t afford to miss much time. He already has an uphill challenge to make the team’s 53-man roster, although he should have a reasonably good chance to earn a spot on Miami’s practice squad.

Sanders is, at best, the team’s No. 7 wide receiver, according to the Dolphins’ initial depth chart. He is fourth string, along with Erik Ezukanma, who has been far more impactful thus far in camp.

Speaking of preseason depth charts: McDaniel hates them.

“What we do here, and you guys hear me talk about it all the time, like every day, we’re evaluating,” he said Tuesday. “Every day is important and I am of principle that players decide where they’re at on the field.

“In doing that, preseason depth charts are like my nemesis because I just make sure that they have every player on the team, but to sit here and say, ‘this person is…’ We are rotating guys, giving guys — I put a precedent on giving guys the opportunity and having them decide where they stand.”
