Let me set the table honestly. A fully healthy Charbonnet would probably be a top-20 back this year. Of course, had he stayed healthy, the Seahawks likely never would have spent a first-round pick on Jadarian Price, and we would be discussing a completely different situation. That version of events does not exist. The reality is that Charbonnet is coming back from a torn ACL, and Seattle used the 32nd overall selection on his potential replacement.
Make no mistake about the talent, though: a 100% Charbonnet is the best running back on this roster. He would function as the lead runner, the goal-line hammer, and most likely the primary passing-down option as well. Early-down work would be shared with Price, but Charbonnet would be the clear top dog. His usage last season backs this up, as he racked up 54 red zone touches, including 12 at the goal line.
Charbonnet has never been a dazzlingly efficient runner. What he does is go forward and handle the dirty work, and that carries real value. The upside is not theoretical either. Across his career, Charbonnet has averaged 22.2 fantasy points per game in the 10 games where Kenneth Walker III did not play at least 20 snaps. We have seen the elite RB1 ceiling with our own eyes.

Now for the part that tempers all of that. There have been reports that Charbonnet is progressing well and has a chance to suit up for Week 1. Allow me to put that idea to bed right now. This is a player who did not undergo knee surgery until February, and ACL recoveries do not bend to optimism. There is no realistic path to him playing in September.

The far more likely outcome is that Charbonnet misses the first half of the season. I would not count on seeing him until November at the absolute earliest. Even then, we have no way of knowing which version of him shows up, as backs returning from significant knee injuries frequently need a full year to regain their explosiveness.
Price complicates matters further. I am not a huge fan of the rookie, but he is not a bad player, and he is not going anywhere. Even if Charbonnet returns around Week 8, he is not going to stroll right back into a featured role. The best-case scenario for 2026 is a timeshare that Charbonnet eventually leads. His worst case is a specialized, limited role until he is truly back to 100% in 2027.
I have Charbonnet at RB45, a few spots behind his RB42 ADP. That is likely a product of the nonsense reports that Charbonnet might be ready for Week 1 (he won’t).
This is a late-round stash for managers who can afford to wait, not a back you draft with any intention of starting early. Grab him as a lottery ticket, and be honest with yourself about the timeline.

Dynasty is where Charbonnet gets interesting. We have him at RB34 in our consensus rankings, and I am comfortably higher than that.

The core belief driving my optimism is simple. A fully healthy Charbonnet is a significantly better player than Price, and he is still just 25 years old. Even if Price performs well as a rookie, I expect Charbonnet to either reclaim the lead role in Seattle in 2027 or land somewhere else in a prominent one. He is a free agent after this season, which only widens the range of paths back to a starting job.
That makes him a sneaky-good target right now. His skill set and production justify a higher valuation than the market is giving him, and his cost is artificially depressed by the injury and the presence of Price. Rebuilding teams should be especially interested, though truthfully, this applies to any roster. Buy the talent while the discount lasts.
