NFL Week 6 picks
Rams -3 (-135) risk $35 to win $26
The Los Angeles Rams are coming off consecutive losses after starting the season 3-0. They last played over a week ago, suffering a heartbreaking, last-second loss in Seattle as Greg Zuerlein missed the potential game-winning field goal wide right by the slimmest of margins. That extra preparation time should prove handy for coach Sean McVay, as the 49ers roll into town on short rest fresh off a Monday Night thrashing of the not ready for prime time Cleveland Browns.
Kyle Shanahan has San Francisco rolling on all cylinders with a dominant run game and strong defensive line play. However, the loss of stud fullback Kyle Juszczyk could potentially put a damper on things. While the 49ers 4-0 start has been impressive, three of those victories have come against AFC teams with losing records. San Francisco hasn’t fared as well against divisional opponents, going just 1-5 against the spread in their previous six meetings with NFC West opponents. This seems like a prime bounce-back opportunity for a desperate Rams team that’s defeated the 49ers straight up in three of the last four meetings. Purchase the half-point if needed and grab Los Angeles minus the three points at home.
Pats -3.5 1Q (-121) risk $15 to win $12.40
Name a Giants skill player other than Daniel Jones. Now check the injury report. What do you see? I’m guessing the word OUT for Thursday night. The Giants team total for Thursday is somewhere between 10.5 and 12.5, depending on the book you have available. The Patriots came out slow last weekend in a similar spot at Washington, but I don’t expect that to repeat itself this week in Foxboro. My worst-case scenario for the end of the first quarter would be Patriots 6 Giants 3 if Mike Nugent misses an extra point, but even that seems far fetched. I’ll lay the 3.5 points for half a unit and look to cash out early Thursday night.
