“A lot of times to do great things, you are going to be hated,” he said, as per senior writer Pete Thamel.

Soon after, fans started questioning Kiffin’s comparison.

Another fan took an even stronger shot, writing, “Wow. Even for Lane Kiffin that is tone deaf and not reading the national room on college football. What an absolute [expletive].”
Then analyst Oliver VanDervoort mocked Kiffin’s stance, saying, “Dude’s out here pretending like trying to get NFL players on his roster is akin to MLK Jr. or Gandhi.”

The controversy centers on two players LSU believes can make an immediate difference. Harris and Wright both played for Kiffin at Ole Miss in 2025 before making brief NFL stops.
Wright could give the Tigers an established option after earning an 80.6 PFN’s CFB TE Impact grade, which ranked No. 20 nationally last season. That context explains LSU’s interest, but it also shows why rival programs remain focused on the eligibility battle.
Then, Kiffin’s latest comments only added more fuel to the debate.

Another user summed up the criticism bluntly: “Lane, I think people hate you because of the bad things actually.”
Meanwhile, the dispute between LSU and the SEC continues to escalate.
Conference leaders have discussed serious penalties, including probation, game boycotts, and even expulsion. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr has also pushed the SEC to consider “all measures available” if LSU uses former professionals.

However, Kiffin has largely ignored the legal storm while keeping his attention on winning. Earlier this week, the LSU coach revealed that the team’s player leadership committee supported adding the returnees.
“If they can help us win, bring ’em,” he said.
