There was a time when it was ‘cool’ to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs winning the Super Bowl. But then, Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes took things to the extreme and started winning a bit too much for the public’s appetite.
After all, the Chiefs won three Super Bowls from 2019 to 2023 and have appeared in five of the last seven bids for the Lombardi Trophy. For non-Chiefs fans, that’s just too much success. Now, the more common approach is for the average fan to ‘hate’ the Chiefs or become practically irritated by whatever success they enjoy.
But it goes further than that. Now, an NFL insider is detailing why the public has grown a bit tired of the Chiefs as of late.
NFL Fans Have ‘Gotten Sick’ of the Kansas City Chiefs
Coach Reid, Mahomes, and even Travis Kelce are all diehard fans of the game. It’s clear from watching them work that this is a trio that just loves being around football. So why do they get so much hate?
According to Mike Florio, the reasoning is actually pretty simple. People have just “gotten sick” of the Chiefs’ winning ways.
“I think a lot of people are sleeping on the Chiefs,” Florio said on “Pro Football Talk.” “It’s easy to do that because we had Chiefs fatigue. I think we’re more quick to embrace the demise of the Chiefs because we’d gotten sick of the Chiefs… There was that sense that football fans had enough.”

Then, Florio comically pleads for Mahomes’ Chiefs to “let one of the other kids play in a Super Bowl.” You know, someone like Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, or Lamar Jackson.
“Give one of the other kids a turn, please,” Florio added. “Let one of the other kids play in a Super Bowl. You got Josh Allen, who would like to play. You got Joe Burrow that would like to play. You got Lamar Jackson that would like to play. Oh, Drake Maye’s the one that took his turn. All the more reason to give one of the other kids a turn Patrick, you’ve had your chances. That’s what I think is influencing our mindset.”

It’s true. There does seem to be a “Chiefs fatigue” settling in with many football fans. It’s like they’ve become the new Dallas Cowboys or something, though; Jerry Jones’s team hasn’t even won a Super Bowl since 1995, and people still love to celebrate their annual demise. The Chiefs are just the latest example. Before them, it was the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick-era New England Patriots.
Eventually, the Chiefs will likely come back down to earth, and the general NFL public will be able to embrace their success rather than their demise again.
As for the upcoming season, Mahomes, who ranked 11th on PFN’s QB Impact Rankings last season, is expected to play in Week 1 after suffering an ACL injury last year. He is optimistic about his team’s outlook, and it remains to be seen whether Kansas City will dominate the NFL again.
