‘Get These Refs In a Courtroom For What They Did to Georgia Tech’ — Ex-NFL LB Accuses Officials of Rigging the Game For Deion Sanders’ Colorado

Will Compton ripped the referees and accused them of rigging the Georgia Tech-Colorado game in favor of the Buffaloes after a rough call.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets could smell victory against Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes. Colorado QB Julian Lewis had other plans, though, leading a go-ahead touchdown drive in the final minute.

Georgia Tech K Aidan Birr had his last-second field goal blocked to seal the win for Colorado.

However, when all was said and done, this game wasn’t without controversy after a questionable whistle nullified an early scoop-and-score for Georgia Tech. Former NFL LB Will Compton had some words for the referees after that call cost the Yellow Jackets points that proved costly down the road.

Will Compton Rips Refs for Favorable Calls for Colorado

Colorado was driving down the field in the first half and threatening to score before the refs bailed them out of a costly turnover in Compton’s eyes.

Damian Henderson II tried fighting for extra yards on a carry before being stripped, and Georgia Tech picked it up and ran it all the way back for a touchdown.

Georgia Tech’s extra-point team was about to kick before the referees officially ruled forward progress, nullifying the turnover and score.

“We have to immediately get these referees in a courtroom for what they just did to Georgia Tech,” said Compton.

It was ruled that one of the referees blew a whistle, determining the play dead, although the Yellow Jackets still returned the play for a touchdown before the referees reached that conclusion. The Yellow Jackets have a right to be upset, as they were about to kick their extra point before their touchdown was taken off the board.

Compton questioned whether there was favoritism in the call, going in favor of the popular Deion Sanders and his Colorado team.

Former Clemson guard Eric Mac Lain also criticized the refs for their handling of the situation.

“Wow. What a huge mess up by the referees there in ATL,” said Mac Lain.

Losing by one point has to sting for Georgia Tech. If they get the scoop-and-score, this game could have gone in a very different direction, and the Yellow Jackets likely would have won the game with how poorly Colorado’s offense operated outside of its final drive.
