Entering his age-25 season, the reality is that if the team trusted Tyjae Spears at a high level, I think we would have seen it by now.
Should You Draft Tyjae Spears in Fantasy Football?
If you’re asking me about the Titans in general, I’m going to fade this. Tony Pollard has been great with 4 straight 1,000-yard seasons, and that’s the direction I’m going more often than not. Wan’Dale Robinson is a boring part of this offense now that he’s over from the Giants after back-to-back 140-target seasons, and I think he’s going to be viable. Carnell Tate I think is being juiced up a little bit here.
But Spears? If this team thought Spears was the Spears they drafted, they wouldn’t have invested in Tony Pollard and they wouldn’t have gone after Nicholas Singleton, the pride of Penn State, in the draft this past April. To me, the writing’s on the wall. Not that Spears is a bad guy. He’s got a catch rate for his career over 80%, and I think there’s a niche role for him to fill as Cam Ward develops and moves this offense from awful to sort of bad. But is it fantasy relevant? I don’t think so.
If Pollard were to go down, what does that do to Spears’ role? Does he go from 7 opportunities a week to 10? You’ve got to think Singleton works in some way, or they bring in help from a free-agent back, if that were to happen. But it hasn’t happened. Pollard has been healthy for the most part ever since he got rolling at the end of his Dallas tenure and so far through his time in Tennessee.
Spears is a name you know from years past as a handcuff, and he’s a nice pass-catching back. I think he does more for Cam Ward than he does for fantasy rosters. He’s not going to be on any of my squads in 2026.

I think we can be done here.
At least for the time being.
We’ve spent years waiting for Spears to assume a real role, and while the skill set is interesting (33.2% of his career touches have come as a pass catcher), the role really isn’t.
Over the past two seasons, the former member of the Green Wave has cleared 13 touches just 3 times, a plan that the organization is telling us is unlikely to change by way of its actions (Nicholas Singleton was picked in the 5th round after averaging 5.6 yards per carry during a four-year career at Penn State).
There may be a time for Spears investment. If Tony Pollard gets nicked up, a bad team could funnel plenty of production toward a versatile back like this. There are RB2s who I’m willing to roster and wait on, while others are ones that I’m content to only address if a real role presents itself.
Spears is the latter.
