The 2026 NFL season is bringing a lot of firsts to the sports calendar. In the first week itself, fans will witness the first-ever regular-season game played in Australia, as the San Francisco 49ers take on the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne.
Both teams are making preparations for the long flight and how they want to approach the challenges of playing there. But for former Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa, it is purely a business trip.
49ers’ Nick Bosa Clearly Isn’t Excited About the Trip to Australia
To prepare for the massive change in time zones and jet lag, the 49ers are already on their way to Australia, with their arrival scheduled for Friday. With nearly a week to prepare for the game, the team should be used to the new conditions by the time they take the field.
However, speaking to reporters, it didn’t seem like Bosa was too thrilled about the travel time. Sounding tired and drained, he was asked about any places he wanted to visit while visiting the country.
“Not really. I don’t know much about Australia, to be honest. I heard they have good coffee, so I’ll try and take advantage of that, have some good coffee. I think there’s some nature exhibits.”
Unfortunately, his lack of interest in Australia didn’t do much to impress fans in the country. As a result, a lot of folks took to social media to call him out for his disinterested attitude.

“An athlete’s lobbed an opportunity to win some new fans in a new market and whiffs #AthletePR,” one fan claimed.
Another fan just about turned hostile. “Just don’t come to Australia. No one down under gives a [expletive] about or even knows who this Bosa [expletive] is.”

Others started calling out Bosa directly, with one fan outright mocking him. “‘I don’t know much about Australia… or if I’m being quite honest, for that matter… anything else’ – Nick Bosa, perpetuating the stereotype, one interview at a time.”

Another fan took more offense, writing, “Typical uneducated millionaire young athlete in today’s world.” Even those who were fans of Bosa were annoyed at the comment. “Bosa is a good football player, but sadly is an ignoramus.”

“Nonchalant gimmick when he can’t stay on the field for a whole season anymore. Should’ve been traded after SB58,” another outraged NFL fan remarked.
A torn ACL limited Bosa to just three games last season, and it has been a long road to recovery for him.
Still, some people showed zero sympathy, calling him out: “With all due respect, Bosa’s done absolutely nothing but collect a paycheck and stand around during training camp, so he should [expletive].”
It remains to be seen if the vocal pushback against him forces Bosa to change his tune. But for the time being, his apparent lack of interest in Australia has soured the fans ahead of a pretty significant Week 1 showdown against the loaded Rams.
