Earlier this week, Tua Tagovailoa took some heat when it looked like he was using his own Instagram to cheer himself on. Many assumed it was simply a classic case of another athlete forgetting to switch to his burner social media account before chiming in on their own situation.
Posted as a comment on his own Instagram, Tagovailoa’s account wrote, “We’re so proud of you!! You got this.”
Yet, Tagovailoa himself has said that the comment didn’t come from him. Now, we know who the real culprit was.
Tua Tagovailoa’s Wife Comes Clean on Instagram Burner
It turns out, it wasn’t the Atlanta Falcons QB who made the post. It instead was his wife, Annah.
She came clean on Wednesday via Instagram, telling everyone that this wasn’t a case of Tua having a “burner account.” She was simply “busy with the kids and forgot to switch back” to her account.
“No burner account!” Annah wrote. “I was busy with the kids this morning and forgot to switch back to my account.. He’s busy at work as he’s said he doesn’t have social media and I post on his behalf! Will pay more attention next time 🤦🏽♀️.”
That explains it.
While it definitely would have been a lot more curious if a 28-year-old Tagovailoa had been running around on social media trying to make it seem like he had one more loyal fan than he has, that wasn’t the case here.

Understandably, it was just a case of his loving wife supporting her football husband, which is really no different than any other athlete in any sport. In other words, based on Annah’s take, it’s time to move along, because there’s nothing to see here.
As for Tagovailoa, he still appears mired in a battle to become the Falcons’ starting QB. Yet, it’s possible the team is buying as much time as possible to see if 2024 first-round pick Michael Penix Jr. can win the competition instead.
Penix Jr. got a bit of a late start while recovering from last season’s partially torn ACL, but he recently started practicing in full capacity and could be ready to roll for full contact in Week 1.
Tagovailoa has earned his fair share of criticism for flaming out with the Miami Dolphins last season while tossing a career-high 15 interceptions, but this incident didn’t seem to have anything to do with him.
Critics may have to find something else to focus on now that this one has seemingly been debunked.
