Frustration levels are palpable among sections of the New Orleans Saints fanbase, with their worst fears realized by top-10 draft pick Jordyn Tyson landing on injured reserve.
Tyson picked up a right hamstring injury during joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars over a fortnight ago. He’s now ineligible to return until Week 5 at the earliest, and that’s best-case.

Tyson missed 34% of his college games in his career for both Colorado and Arizona, missing the entirety of the 2023 season with a torn knee ligament. He also suffered hamstring injuries and a collarbone injury, adding to a spotty injury history.
Many speculated whether the litany of issues would affect Tyson’s draft stock, but Saints GM Mickey Loomis was starstruck by his smooth skill set and excellent production, piling up 22 touchdowns and over 2,000 receiving yards in 33 games. Thus, the Saints took the risk and selected him with their 8th overall pick.

Many comments under Adam Schefter’s breaking news tweet followed a similar opinion:
“Shocking…. injury-riddled player gets injured,” wrote one fan. Meanwhile, another fan believes the pick is already a draft bust. “What a terrible first-round pick. The guy who was always hurt in college is now hurt in the NFL. Who saw that coming?”
It’s extremely premature to give up on a selection this early; Tyson can still come back strong and perform well in his rookie season and beyond even if the early signs are ominous.
Another fan commented under Schefter’s tweet by questioning the Saints’ selection of Tyson: “Maybe don’t draft a guy that’s injury-prone? He’s had a lingering hamstring injury basically for 2 years. Everyone could have seen this coming.”

This news clearly hit one fan hard, as he cussed out his luck as a Saints fan: “I hate being a Saints fan sometimes.”
This news is far from ideal for Tyson, as he needs valuable reps to get up to speed with the rest of the offense. For his sake, and indirectly for Saints GM Loomis for taking him 8th overall, they are banking on this hamstring injury not being a precursor to further injuries so he can show off his obvious talent.
