College football does not take off Sunday completely.
After Saturday’s Week 0 slate brought the first wave of FBS games, the schedule shrinks to one matchup on Aug. 30. West Alabama and Tuskegee will meet in the Red Tails Classic before the FBS schedule resumes on Thursday and Week 1 begins in earnest.
Is There a College Football Game Today?
There is one college football game on Sunday, and it comes from the Division II level.
College Football Games on Sunday, Aug. 30
- West Alabama vs. Tuskegee, 8 p.m. ET, ESPN2
The Red Tails Classic will be played at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala. The ESPN schedule lists Jason Ross Jr. and Tyoka Jackson on the broadcast for the sixth edition of the event, which celebrates the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. It is also the only college football game on ESPN’s Sunday television schedule.
Tuskegee returns after beating Winston-Salem State 20-17 in last year’s Red Tails Classic, while West Alabama is making its first appearance in the event. The matchup also renews an in-state series that has been dormant since 2022.
Last season, West Alabama finished 5-4 while Tuskegee went 4-7, and both teams will look to improve on those records. That makes Sunday a standalone national television opportunity for two programs that otherwise would be competing for attention against a much larger FBS slate.
When Are the Next College Football Games?
After Sunday, the FBS schedule resumes Thursday, Sept. 3, with Week 1 spreading across the Labor Day weekend. The first kickoff comes at 6 p.m. ET when UMass visits Rutgers on the Big Ten Network.
