Wembanyama was involved in an unfortunate passing mistake during the second quarter. With France in possession, the San Antonio Spurs star attempted to find a teammate, but the pass went badly astray.
The ball continued rolling toward the sideline and eventually crossed the line before a French teammate could get there in time. While it was hardly a game-changing moment in a 25-point victory, the clip quickly began making the rounds across the internet.

Once the footage reached NBA fans, the reactions were anything but forgiving.
One influencer appeared to suggest that Wembanyama has failed to learn from similar mistakes he has made previously. In their view, studying those errors and making adjustments could have helped the Spurs star avoid another poor transition pass.

Another fan brought up a much more memorable Wembanyama passing mistake. They wrote, “Still didn’t learn something ummm. He passed ball to Brunson,” whereas another one said, “STOLEN BY BRUNSON.”
The reference was to an incident involving Wembanyama and Jalen Brunson on June 5, 2026, during Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Spurs and Knicks.
The score was tied 104-104 with less than 12 seconds remaining. At that time, Wembanyama secured a defensive rebound after Brunson missed a shot. He then attempted an outlet pass towards teammate Stephon Castle, but Castle had already turned and begun running upcourt.
The ball instead bounced off Castle’s back, allowing Brunson to recover it. Wembanyama then fouled Brunson, who made one of two free throws to give New York a 105-104 lead and ultimately helped them win.
