The Green Bay Packers were hoping for a straightforward approach to the 2026 NFL season to try to re-establish themselves as a top-tier contender in the NFC. However, right before the season gets underway, the team has been marred by a controversy.
Star running back Josh Jacobs was formally charged after his arrest back in May. But a former defensive tackle believes things could get much worse for the veteran if videographic proof of the incident were to see the light of day.
Josh Jacobs Is on Thin Ice
A first-round pick back in 2019, Jacobs has been extremely productive throughout his career. With four 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, he has been a factor for the Packers since he came over in 2024.
After a 1,329-yard and 15-touchdown season in 2024, his numbers slightly regressed to 929 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns last year, albeit in just 15 games. As a result, he ranked at number 16 on PFN’s Running Back Impact Metric.
The offseason, though, has been marred by controversy for the veteran. His arrest in May saw him booked with five charges, including felony strangulation, but he was formally charged with two misdemeanors of battery and criminal damage to property.

However, reporter Ari Meirov revealed that the situation could get significantly more complex for Jacobs: “Surveillance video from Packers RB Josh Jacobs’ garage confirmed the relevant portions of the woman’s account of the altercation.”
Describing the details, he added, “She told police Jacobs grabbed her as she tried to leave, threw her to the ground, and she struck her head. The video specifically shows her on the garage floor, Jacobs taking her phone, and then returning about 40 seconds later and appearing to damage it. If convicted, Jacobs faces up to 18 months in prison.”

For Breiden Fehoko, though, that video was the death knell of the three-time Pro Bowler’s career.
“If that video ever goes public, he will never see another snap in the NFL,” Fehoko posted on X.
Speaking as he’d already seen the video, Fehoko lamented the situation and added, “Sad reality is he’ll probably play again, but if that video drops? It’s over with.”

It remains to be seen whether this video comes to light or what the official conviction will be, but there is a real possibility, as the former Pittsburgh Steeler defensive tackle suggests, that Jacobs may not play in the NFL anymore.
That leaves a gaping hole for the Packers and could potentially derail their season.
