Caleb Williams had a simple message for Cam Ward when asked what advice he would give the Tennessee Titans quarterback. That may have been exactly why NFL fans liked the answer.
Caleb Williams’ Humility Stands Out to NFL Fans
The Chicago Bears quarterback was asked about Ward following a joint practice between their teams on Thursday. Williams pointed Ward toward his coaching staff, encouraged him to trust his offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll, and stressed the importance of making the routine plays along with the big ones.
Williams also made sure not to portray himself as someone who had already figured everything out.
“I think he has an awesome coordinator… that’s been in different places with different quarterbacks, so he has a good track record with the quarterbacks he’s been with,” Williams said. “So, just believing and trusting in him and what he’s coaching you and teaching you. Then, I think just being able to go out there and execute.”
“I think we may have some similarities in our game and things like that. Being able to make the big plays and just being able to keep consistent and making the small plays. I’m still working on myself, so I can’t speak on it too much,” Williams added.

His comments sat well with fans, with some comparing Williams’ approach to the way Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has previously interacted with young quarterbacks.

After a game between the Bears and Texans, Stroud pulled Williams aside and offered advice to him. Stroud encouraged him to learn from his mistakes and avoid taking unnecessary hits.
The exchange led to fans debating Stroud’s approach. Stroud has since indicated that he remains willing to help younger quarterbacks who reach out to him. But he has also said that he generally tries to give them space during the season rather than inserting himself into their development.
Ward and Williams have more than their draft status in common. Both entered the NFL as the No. 1 overall pick, arriving with the expectations that come with being selected first. Both also learned soon that playing quarterback in the NFL can mean spending a lot of time under pressure.

Williams was sacked 68 times as a rookie, the most in the league. Ward, who had the league-worst impact score of 61.6 on PFN’s QB Impact Metric in 2025, was taken down 55 times last season, tying him for the most among all players.
Williams’ situation improved in his second season. The Bears hired Ben Johnson as their head coach and brought in Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator before the 2025 season. Williams responded with a more comfortable campaign, helping Chicago finish 11-6 and reach the playoffs. The Bears also finished ninth in the NFL in scoring.
Now, the Titans have hired former New York Giants head coach Daboll as the OC, giving Ward an experienced coach to work with. Ward showed some encouraging signs during Thursday’s joint practice. He completed 21 of 34 passes during the seven-on-seven and team periods combined, throwing three touchdowns and one interception.
Those numbers are not the same thing as a regular-season performance, but they offered another glimpse of what Tennessee hopes to see from Ward.
