‘That’s So Ridiculous’ — NFL Fans Slam Rumors of Jets Landing Lamar Jackson, Mike Tomlin as Part of Blockbuster Plan

NFL fans on X reacted to insider Jason La Canfora's report detailing the New York Jets' interest in getting Mike Tomlin and Lamar Jackson.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin became a part of NBC’s “Football Night in America” segment after resigning from his position in January. On Wednesday, NFL insider Jason La Canfora revealed that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is exploring hiring Tomlin as the franchise’s next coach.

La Canfora further revealed that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson could seek a trade to play for Tomlin in New York should the coach take the job.

NFL Fans React to Mike Tomlin-Lamar Jackson Rumor

According to La Canfora, league sources are adamant about the Jets’ interest in Tomlin.

“Woody is starting to ask a lot of questions; he’s doing his homework on Tomlin,” La Canfora wrote. “This one has legs. I’m telling you. Mike is in New York at Rockefeller Center for NBC, Woody is back in charge at the facility, and he knows how steep the competition will be. You are going to hear a lot about the Jets.”

NFL fans on X had mixed reactions to La Canfora’s speculation about the Jets hiring Tomlin and signing Jackson.

A user named Steve Conoscenti added, “‘Per Jason La Canfora’ renders this useless.”

One fan completely dismissed the possibility of Aaron Glenn potentially being replaced by Tomlin next year: “That’s just clickbait. That’s so ridiculous”

Another fan mocked the news, saying the move might be possible, but only in a video game: “Yeah, maybe on Madden.”

One fan took a dig at the Jets fans’ hopes that this scenario would prove true, saying, “This is Lakers’ fan level delusion.”

Another fan added, “Y’all can dream, but it ain’t happening.”

Tomlin finished his Steelers career with a 193-114-2 regular-season and 8-12 postseason record.

Tomlin, who was the longest-tenured head coach in major North American sports leagues when he resigned, led the Steelers to 13 playoff appearances, eight division titles, three AFC Championship Games, two Super Bowl appearances, and a Super Bowl XLIII title.

In 19 seasons with the Steelers, Tomlin never finished with a losing record, the longest streak in NFL history.

On the other hand, Jackson signed a five-year, $260 million contract extension with the Ravens in 2023. According to La Canfora, Jackson’s deal has no-tag and no-trade clauses and also carries an $84.5 million cap hit for 2027.
