Updated Adonai Mitchell Fantasy Outlook 2026: Is the Jets WR Poised for a Year 3 Breakout?

After a slow start to his career, could Adonai Mitchell experience a year three breakout in a revamped Jets offense?

Adonai Mitchell was a second-round pick in 2024 and never really got the chance to show us his fantasy football potential during his 1.5 years with the Colts. He earned 58 targets with the Jets in the second half of last season and while they netted just 301 yards, there was at least a little proof of concept.

Can he build on that and be a bye-week filler for us in 2026?

Should I Draft Adonai Mitchell in Fantasy Football?

This is a 6’2” who averaged north of 15 yards per catch during his college career. There is pedigree to chase here and considering that he doesn’t turn 24 years of age until October, the book is far from closed on the idea of Mitchell.

In practice, however, a breakout is a tough sell.

Geno Smith has graded in the bottom quartile of the league in three consecutive seasons and reversing the aging curve seems unlikely. The tough part for Mitchell is yes, Smith’s limitations, but it’s also the lack of a path to quality looks.

Behind Smith is Cade Klubnik, a fourth-round rookie who is viewed very much as a project that could take years, not months, to develop in a real way. Even if that evaluation is wrong, Garrett Wilson is the unquestioned alpha in this offense with tremendous draft capital spent in April on Omar Cooper Jr. and Kenyon Sadiq.

At best, maybe Mitchell can out-earn one of them? That would pencil him in as the third option in a below-average offense that would prefer to bleed clock with the ground game.

That’s not exactly the profile that has my interest in any way in any format. For me, Cooper’s profile is much more appealing if you’re hell-bent on trying to guess right in New York, while players like Tank Dell and Jalen Nailor offer higher ceilings, even if a low floor is in play.

I don’t have Mitchell graded as a viable roster piece in any redraft league right now. I’m actually a tick lower on Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson than the industry as well. If you leave a draft this summer without Gang Green exposure, I don’t think you’re going to regret it.

In the year 2026, every team can score if things play out perfectly. Maybe one of these rookies carves out a niche or Smith develops a connection with Mitchell that is appealing with the Jets often playing from behind.

This isn’t Best Ball. You’re not locked into your roster. If you see something actionable or I highlight a trend that you buy, go out there and spend a waiver priority when the time is right. I have my doubts about that time coming at all in 2026, but if it does, you can be reactive to it as opposed to being proactive in your draft.
