Cleveland Browns first-year head coach Todd Monken has made his Week 1 decision, naming Deshaun Watson the starter. That leaves Shedeur Sanders as Cleveland’s QB2, putting his place with the team under fresh scrutiny and making a potential trade increasingly possible.
With that turn of events, former Los Angeles Chargers defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko believes Sanders should look for a new home, with the Kansas City Chiefs standing out as an ideal landing spot.
Breiden Fehoko Wants a Fresh Start For Shedeur Sanders With Chiefs Trade
During an appearance on Jason Whitlock’s show, Fearless, Fehoko made his case for Sanders getting a fresh start.
“I just think that if I’m Shedeur, I’d want to get traded,” he said. “I would want to go to another organization and start fresh.”
“Your fan base has already shown their true colors and their face with the Cleveland Browns fan base. And that’s one thing people need to get. Don’t get it twisted. Cleveland Browns fans and Shedeur Sanders fans are two totally different people. I think that course has run its term in Cleveland. It’s time to get out of there.”
Then came the more interesting part of Fehoko’s argument. He specifically mentioned Kansas City, believing Sanders could learn behind one of the NFL’s biggest stars.
“Get him somewhere else; get him behind Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, and let’s see how that plays out,” he said, before launching another shot at Sanders’ fans.
“You could have prime Warren Moon, you could have Michael Vick, and the kid, to his fan base, to his cult, will do no wrong.”

For now, Justin Fields remains the primary backup behind Mahomes. The Chiefs brought Fields in during the offseason after Mahomes suffered a major knee injury late in the 2025 campaign. Behind him, the Chiefs have rookie Garrett Nussmeier on the roster.
Fields entered the NFL as a first-round pick with the Chicago Bears, with his dual-threat ability creating plenty of excitement. However, that promise never fully carried over to Sundays.
Since then, he has spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets. In his NFL tenure, Fields has never ranked higher than No. 19 in PFN’s QB Impact Metrics.
Then, last week’s performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers raised more questions.

Fields completed nine of 12 passes for 64 yards and added 15 yards on the ground. Still, two costly sacks took away 23 yards and stalled promising drives. One of those possessions ended after Kansas City reached third-and-goal.
Even with that rough preseason outing on show, it’s difficult to see Kansas City making inquiries on Sanders.
Sanders went 3-5 as a starter in 2025, throwing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. His 63.0 PFN QB Impact score ranked second-worst among qualifying quarterbacks, above only Cam Ward.
However, some NFL fans believe Sanders never received the right setup in Cleveland.
During the second week of preseason, he showed why some still see upside in his game. Sanders played the first half against the Buffalo Bills and completed nine of 11 passes for 74 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
He also outplayed Deshaun Watson during that stretch. Still, Todd Monken stuck with Watson as Cleveland’s QB1, leaving Sanders as the alternative if Watson struggles or misses time.
For now, that keeps a Chiefs move in the realm of speculation. Nevertheless, if Kansas City wants a solid quarterback behind Mahomes, Sanders could become an intriguing name to watch.
