Enes Kanter Freedom’s involvement in the WNBA’s transgender-athlete debate has created another wave of controversy following his appearance at an Indiana Fever-Chicago Sky game on Sunday.
However, during the third quarter, the former NBA center got into a heated confrontation with Chicago guard Natasha Cloud, with Kanter being ejected from the arena.
The controversial moment sparked a scathing rant from American radio host and TV personality Charlamagne tha God.

Kanter attended the Fever-Sky matchup while supporting Sophie Cunningham, who has been outspoken about transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.
Kanter’s confrontation with Cloud quickly grabbed the headlines amid Indiana’s 113-90 win over the Sky, fueling the already red-hot debates surrounding transgender athletes.
Charlamagne tha God addressed the controversy on The Breakfast Club radio show, questioning whether Kanter’s approach was helping the cause he says he supports.
“He says he’s doing all of this because he wants to protect women,” Charlamagne said.
The radio host then questioned why the former Boston Celtics center’s activism has made him such a prominent figure in the debate.
“How did protecting women become making yourself the main character in women’s spaces? If you have to manufacture the crisis you’re warning everybody about, you’re not raising awareness to a problem, you actually are the problem.”

The criticism added another layer to a debate that continues to extend beyond basketball, as Kanter has publicly positioned himself as an advocate for women’s sports and supported Cunningham amid the trans-athlete debate.
Earlier in August, Kanter announced his decision to enter the 2027 WNBA draft, stating that he and his team “carefully examined the WNBA’s eligibility criteria and governing framework surrounding self-identification and inclusion.”
Despite his altercation with Cloud on Sunday, Kanter spoke with Fox News host Laura Ingraham and revealed his plans for the WNBA playoffs.
“I am so excited for the playoffs,” Kanter said. “I cannot wait to go to every playoff game that the Indiana Fever plays. It’s going to be fun… I don’t get those tickets under my name, because I don’t know if they are going to cancel at the last minute or not. So, I’m getting those tickets under my manager’s name.”
He also revealed that he had spoken with Cunningham about the events that unfolded during the game.
“I texted her after the game,” Kanter said. “I was like, ‘Listen, please focus on your game because you are a national treasure.’ She is an American hero, and she should be protected at all costs because she is not only inspiring young girls in America, but all over the world.”
The broader debate over transgender participation in women’s sports will continue, but Charlamagne has made his position clear: He believes Kanter’s approach has shifted the conversation away from the league’s inclusivity policies and toward the Celtics center.
